LIFE DURING THIRD MARRIAGE Spanish Civil War In 1940  Hemingway divorced Pauline and married Martha  Gellhorn “ For Whom The Bell Tolls” Cuba, Wyoming, Sun Valley , Idaho and China World War II- Bronze Star 1947
LIFE DURING FORTH MARRIAGE Hemingway married Mary Welsh in March 1946 Accidents in Africa and deaths of friends “ Old Man And The Sea”- Pulitzer prize 1952, Nobel Prize in Literature 1954 A dmitted to the  Mayo Clinic  in Minnesota Comitted suicide in July 2, 1961 Ketchum, Idaho

WRITING STYLE H e learned how to "get the most from the least, how to prune language how to multiply intensities, and how to tell nothing but the truth in a way that allowed for telling more than the truth."  The style is known as the  “Iceberg Theory”  because in Hemingway's writing the hard facts float above water; the supporting structure, complete with symbolism, operates out-of-sight Hemingway believed the writer could describe one thing though an entirely different thing occurs below the  surface
INFLUENCE AND LEGACY He became the spokesperson for the post-World War I generation, and he established a style to be emulated "Hemingway industry ” In 1978 a  minor planet  was named for him— 3656 Hemingway O n July 17, 1989, the  United States Postal Service  issued a 25-cent  postage stamp  honoring Hemingway Ray Bradbury  wrote the story  The Kilimanjaro Device
