 Maharashtra government has approved the proposals to set up weekly
farmer markets at 17 places in Mumbai and at 70 places in rest of the state
under the new policy of de-regulating fruits and vegetables from the
APMC rules. The state plans to now de-regulate the trade of grains. There
are 37 farmers markets already running in the state. The inspecting the 60
spaces offered by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the
Maharashtra State Agricultural Marketing Board finalised 17 locations as
suitable for starting markets. These markets will be open once a week for
four hours. The marketing reforms in Maharashtra have also led to rapid
increase in the number of direct licenses being issued by the government.
Maharashtra had issued about 110 licenses of direct marketing in last
decade, which increased to 270 in last few months. Large number of
Farmer Producer Companies and farmer groups have come forward to take
direct marketing licenses.
 Government has integrated 250 mandis in ten states with the electronic
national agriculture market (e-NAM) in the first phase, on which
commodities worth Rs 421 crore have been traded, Agriculture Minister
Radha Mohan Singh said today. He also launched mobile App to access
information related to prices of commodities traded on the e-NAM
platform so that to encourage more farmers to take advantage of this new
initiative. In April, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the e-
NAM on a pilot basis with 22 mandis in eight states. The target was to
integrate 200 mandis by September this year and total 585 by March 2018.
Briefing media, Singh said, "I am happy to announce that most of the
implementation issues faced during pilot phase have been addressed and e-
NAM platform is launched in 250 markets across 10 states as on
September 30.“"So far, 1,53,992 tonnes of agriculture produce worth Rs
421 crore has been transacted on e-NAM platform. As many as 1,60,229
farmers, 46,688 traders and 25,970 commission agents have been
registered on the e-NAM at present," he said.
 Soybean futures traded marginally higher on NCDEX on concerns
that wet weather condition during second part of September may have
affected early harvest of crops. However, expectations of higher
arrivals from the major producing belts restricted some gains. The
contract for October delivery was trading at Rs 3247.00, up by 0.25%
or Rs 8.00 from its previous closing of Rs 3239.00. The open interest
of the contract stood at 31230 lots.
 Coriander futures edged higher on NCDEX as speculators built up
fresh positions amid strong demand in the spot market. Further, limited
arrivals from major producing belts also fuelled the uptrend. The
contract for October delivery was trading at Rs 7610.00, up by 0.18%
or Rs 14.00 from its previous closing of Rs 7596.00. The open interest
of the contract stood at 9170.00 lots. The contract for November
delivery was trading at Rs 7529.00, up by 0.33% or Rs 25.00 from its
previous closing of Rs 7504.00.
Turmeric futures edged lower on NCDEX on expectation of good
crop this season due to increase in acreage. Further, lower export
demand too fuelled the downtrend. However, expectation of pickup in
domestic demand ahead of festival season, capped some losses. The
contract for October delivery was trading at Rs 6982.00, down by
0.71% or Rs 50.00 from its previous closing of Rs 7032.00.The open
interest of the contract stood at 8485 lots. The contract for November
delivery was trading at Rs 7100.00.
 Jeera futures traded higher on NCDEX on account of tight stocks
position following poor arrival from the producing belts. Though, fall
in domestic as well as export demand at the spot market capped some
gains. The contract for October delivery was trading at Rs 16720.00, up
by 0.39% or Rs 65.00 from its previous closing of Rs 16655.00. The
open interest of the contract stood at 6516.00 lots. The contract for
November delivery was trading at Rs 16975.00, up by 0.50% or Rs
85.00 from its previous closing of Rs 16890.00.
