 The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved for signing an agreement
between India and Poland on cooperation in agriculture and allied sectors.
The agreement will cover exchange of information between the two
countries on various aspects, including health of crops, as per the
international trade requirements and threats posed by harmful organisms
and diseases of crops, a government statement said. The two countries will
also undertake joint economic initiatives, including agri-food trade. "It (the
agreement) also covers participation in fairs, exhibitions, seminars and
conferences related to agriculture and agri-food processing," the statement
added. As per the proposed agreement, a Joint Working Group (JWG) will
be set up to prepare plans of cooperation. The JWG will also provide
solutions to problems that arise during the implementation of the
agreement.
 Agriculture services company, EM3 AgriServices launches a mobile app
through which farmers in Madhya Pradesh can place orders for renting
farm equipment and services, with a built in option of paying online via the
payment wallet. The company also plans to increase its Samadhan Kendras
which provide agricultural farm equipment and services such as tractors,
soil analysis, seedbed preparation, sowing, fertilizer application, weed/pest
control, harvesting and post-harvest operations. Currently the company has
10 such centres in the Madhya Pradesh which it plans to expand to 100 by
end of 2017 through the franchise route. In Gujarat, the company has been
working with potato farmers in partnership with McCain Foods (India)-
manufacturers of French fries and potato specialties. By leveraging internet
technology, mobile telecom services, financial services and cloud
technologies we will significantly increase our reach of farm
mechanization and enable digital empowerment of the farmers in Madhya
Pradesh, said Rohtash Mal, chairman, EM3 AgriServices. “Our pay per use
model enables farmers to deploy mechanization technology without any
investments in the asset.
 Coriander futures surged on NCDEX as participants enlarged their
holdings amid rising demand in the spot market. Besides, tight stock
positions following restricted arrivals from major growing regions also
fuelled the uptrend. The contract for April delivery was trading at Rs
6705.00, up by 3.12% or Rs 203.00 from its previous closing of Rs
6502.00. The open interest of the contract stood at 29800 lots. The
contract for May delivery was trading at Rs 6827.00, up by 3.5% or Rs
231.00 from its previous closing of Rs 6596.00. The open interest of
the contract stood at 5900 lots on NCDEX.
 Soybean futures edged higher on NCDEX on bargain buying and
good demand for soyabean at domestic spot market. Further, firm
prices in international markets and prospects for increased US demand
for soy-based biodiesel fuel too added support to soyabean prices’
uptrend. Additional support stemmed from fund-driven buying at the
end of the month and ahead of the US planting season. However, ample
supplies of edible oil from domestic crushing this season due to higher
oilseeds production capped some gains. The contract for March
delivery was trading at Rs 2949.00, up by 0.41% or Rs 12.00 from its
previous closing of Rs 2937.00. The open interest of the contract stood
at 181410 lots.
 Turmeric futures traded down on NCDEX on ample stocks position
following higher supplies from the producing regions. Reports showed
that the turmeric arrivals in the country increase to 28,337 tons last
week (20-25 February) compared to 7,300 tons during previous week.
Though, some losses were capped on increasing exports demand at the
spot market. On the export front, country exported about 74,524 tons;
up by 32% during April-November period compared to last year
exports of 56,471 tons. The contract for April delivery was trading at
Rs 6824, down by 0.76% or Rs 52.00 from its previous closing of Rs
6876. The open interest of the contract stood at 13735 lots.
