 Indian and British scientists are working on a project together under
the NationalMonsoon Mission to provide precise information about
monsoon to farmers up to the block-level by 2019. "Under the
National Monsoon Mission, precise information about the monsoon will be
provided to farmers up to the block level by 2019," Union Minister for
Science and Technology Harshvarshan said. The Minister, who also holds
the portofolio of Earth Sciences, said till now only 1.13 crore farmers out
of 9.30 get information about monsoon which helps them in taking
necessary steps to save their crop from rains. Through this mission, crops
worth over Rs 42,000 crore have been saved and now the aim is to extend
the benefits to all the farmers in times to come, he said. Under the mission,
a British-make atmospheric research aircraft with sophisticated scientific
instruments is being used. It is capable of flying at 500 feet and is equipped
to assess all intricacies of weather, the minister said, adding India will
manufacture such an aircraft in next two years. The mission was started on
June 8 and it will continue till the end of this month, he said.
 The government agencies have procured 3740.47 metric tonne pulses as
on October 2 during ongoing Kharif Marketing Season. The Central
government has directed FCI and NAFED to procure kharif pulses from
the farmers to ensure MSP for their crops. The agencies have set up 417
procurement centres in pulses producing states to ensure their reach to the
farm gates for procurement of Moong and Urad. More centres will be set
up if required on the arrival of Tur crop. So far, FCI has procured 1075.34
metric tonne and NAFED 2665.13 metric tonne pulses since the arrival of
kharif pulses during ongoing KMS 2016-17. The government has set up the
procurement target of 50,000 metric tonne kharif pulses during current
KMS for its buffer stock. government agencies have procured 3740.47
metric tonne pulses as on October 2 during ongoing Kharif Marketing
Season (KMS).
 Jeera October future market down by 2.00% (Low – 16940/Qtl) on
Tuesday. As per market information, lower quality stocks reported in
exchange platform likely to release in coming days pressurizes the
prices at higher levels. Good rainfall in Jeera growing regions also
pressurizes the prices in the spot market. 16700 - 16500 is strong
support level for short term.
 In Telangana State, Turmeric sowing reported week ending 28-09-
2016, around 45633 hectares as compared to last year same period
40830 hectares, normal in season 48083 hectares. Turmeric crop is in
vegetative stage to flowering stage. Warangal districts reported highest
12030 hectares compared to last year 7558 hectares, Nizamabad 11754
hectares, Adilabad 7135 hectares compared to last year 7253 hectares
till date.
 Soybean futures edged lower on NCDEX due to sluggish demand
for soymeal in export market. Further, expectation of higher production
this year due to favorable weather conditions too weighed on soyabean
prices. However, some losses were capped on reports of late harvest in
some parts of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. The contract for
October delivery was trading at Rs 3202.00, down by 1.29% or Rs
42.00 from its previous closing of Rs 3244.00. The open interest of the
contract stood at 40950 lots. The contract for November delivery was
trading at Rs 3207.00, down by 1.38% or Rs 45.00 from its previous
close of Rs 3252.00. The open interest of the contract stood at 101130
lots on NCDEX.
 Coriander futures traded higher on NCDEX as speculators built fresh
positions amid pickup in demand in the spot market. Besides, restricted
arrivals from major producing belts also fuelled the uptrend. The
contract for October delivery was trading at Rs 7609.00, up by 0.04%
or Rs 3.00 from its previous closing of Rs 7606.00. The open interest
of the contract stood at 9920 lots.
