 The government today said it has created a buffer stock of 10 lakh
tonnes of pulses so far against a total target of 20 lakh tonnes through
domestic procurement and imports. The buffer stock of pulses would be
used to intervene in the market in case of price rise. The government had
decided to create buffer stock after the retail prices skyrocketed in the
domestic market. This move alongwith other steps has helped in bringing
down the rates significantly. The Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) on
prices and availability of select essential commodities today held a meeting
under the chairmanship of Consumer Affairs Secretary. It was noted in the
meeting that "for the first time a buffer stock of 10 lakh tonnes of pulses
has been created through domestic procurement and imports". Of this, five
lakh tonnes have been procured during ongoing kharif marketing season,
an official statement said. The government procurement intervention has
helped farmers get remunerative prices for kharif pulses.
 Central assistance worth over Rs 2,845 crore has been released for
various Extension, Renovation and Modernisation (ERM) irrigation
projects under the Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programme (AIBP) till
December 2016, government said today. "42 approved ERM projects have
been included under AIBP since its inception. Central assistance of Rs
2,845.27 crore has been released for these projects up to December 2016,"
Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti said in Lok Sabha during Question
Hour. Out of the 42 projects, 20 have been reported to be completed by
state governments, she added. According to a written reply, she said issues
relating to completion of ongoing AIBP projects were considered by a
committee. "The committee, in consultation with states has identified 99
ongoing AIBP projects including 9 ERM projects for completion in phases
by December 2019," she said. To a query regarding Grand Anicut Canal
System of Tamil Nadu, the Minister said the project authorities have not
submitted proposal for investment clearance. The proposal for Grand
Anicut Canal System of Tamil Nadu was accepted by the advisory of the
Water Resources Ministry last year.
 Soybean futures traded marginally lower on NCDEX on ample
supply in the domestic spot market. However, bargain buying and
reports of good export demand for the soymeal from the country,
capped some losses. The contract for February delivery was trading at
Rs 3011.00, down by 0.36% or Rs 11.00 from its previous closing of
Rs 3022.00. The open interest of the contract stood at 57370 lots. The
contract for March delivery was trading at Rs 3075.00, down by 0.29%
or Rs 9.00 from its previous closing of Rs 3084.00. The open interest
of the contract stood at 161360 lots on NCDEX.
 Coriander futures edged lower on NCDEX as speculators offloaded
their positions, driven by easing demand from retailers and stockists
and ample stocks position from major producing belts at the spot
market. The contract for April delivery was trading at Rs 6953.00,
down by 0.76% or Rs 53.00 from its previous closing of Rs 7006.00.
The open interest of the contract stood at 18840 lots. The contract for
May delivery was trading at Rs 7025.00, down by 0.87% or Rs 62.00
from its previous closing of Rs 7087.00. The open interest of the
contract stood at 2000 lots on NCDEX.
 Turmeric futures showed mixed trend on NCDEX as the April
contracts traded higher on receipt of some fresh upcountry demand at
the spot market, while May contracts traded lower on rising arrivals as
the harvesting is going on in key producing states – Maharashtra,
Tamilnadu and Karnataka. The contract for April delivery was trading
at Rs 6864.00, up by 0.03% or Rs 2.00 from its previous closing of Rs
6862.00. The open interest of the contract stood at 13610 lots. The
contract for May delivery was trading at Rs 6860.00, down by 0.41%
or Rs 28.00 from its previous closing of Rs 6888.00. The open interest
of the contract stood at 1820 lots on NCDEX.
