What is Environment?
Every thing that is around us
A complete ecological units
Platform for natural resources and physical
phenomenon
The surroundings or conditions in which a living
beings as well as non living beings do their
activities completely being dependent
Responsibility?
 Protection, proper/less use
 Valuing and conserving natural resources
 Caring of living beings as well as of non living
beings too
 Thinking globally and acting locally
 Recycle-Reuse-Reduce
Consumption Definition?
The action of using up a resources
Selection, adoption, disposal and recycling of goods and services from
nature
Design, production and marketing new things derived from existing
materials and resources
Purchase of goods or services for any purpose.
Environmentally Responsible Consumption
Meaning?
Consumption with less pollution and emissions
Caring and proper use of water, land and air
Environment friendly consumption of products and services which are
less harming
Little or no impact on the native ecosystem or environment.
Human beings are the most consuming creature so must be a realization
of consumed quantity
Responsible consumption influences the behavior of manufacturers,
distributors and retailers, and encourages decision makers to adopt
policies that protect the environment and the rights of citizens
Problems…
Pollutants and chemicalized water as a byproducts from machines and
factories
Lack of 3R’s (recycle-reuse-reduce) of consumption
Excess use of natural resources and leading to the decrease in quantity
High consumption of conventional sources of energy like petrol, diesel,
coal etc.…
Deforestation, contamination of water & land and global warming
Production and misuse of toxic chemical compounds
Lack of implementation of rules and regulations
Current scenario and practices…
Purchasing policies but improper implementation
Lack of understanding the importance of environment
Urbanization as a priority rather than greenery
Materialism & consumerism
Green as a brand instead of purpose
Zero regulatory requirements
No manufacturer responsibility
If we are responsible we don’t need to face it.
Challenges…
Alternative sources
Cost
Education
Implementation of policies
Treatment of polluting by-products
Cultural, traditional and conservative demand
Time and manpower
Implementation of 3R’s
Luxury and comfortable
Possible solutions…
Reduction of waste generation
Promotion of eco-friendly products that conserves the resources
Human aware of 3R’s after use of any products
Energy saving manufacturing
Reduce fuel and power consumption
Hard implementation of policies
Reduction in use of toxic chemical in production process
Reduction of exhaust gases by proper treatment
Proper management of waste
At least we can do this much
Thank you…
