This document provides an overview of the 1st Scenario Planning Workshop for Asia-Europe Strategies for the Earth Summit 2012. The workshop brought together 30 experts to use foresight methodology and scenario building to analyze potential futures and challenges regarding issues like economic growth, climate change, and food/energy security in preparation for the Rio+20 Earth Summit. The scenarios developed at this and subsequent workshops will contribute to discussions on reforming the institutional framework for sustainable development at Rio+20.
