Entry 1: Sense of Place
Your first entry will provide you with an opportunity to share your about your location. Using the tools provided, you will create a marker and place it on an interactive online map, and use your posting to describe some features and elements of your community. As each student completes this part of the assignment, more markers will appear on the map. Take time to view other markers and learn something about different communities! You will also enter the information into your journal.
The information required for Entry 1 is:
1. House Photo
. The average house price in Canada as of January 2019 was $472,000. What can you buy for that price in your community?
. Go to the website of a real estate agent who works in the community you are going to share about, and find a house or property listed as close to $472,000 as possible.
. Right click the photo and save a copy to your computer. Insert the picture into your response.
. Write down the house/property address since you’ll be asked for that information when you enter data into a form.
. Write down copyright information (source website URL).
· Typical Geography Photo
. Use your own camera to take a picture of the geography that you want to share with others. If you can’t take your own photo, search the internet for a picture that shows the typical geography and also note the source URL to provide the appropriate copyright details.
. Download the photo onto your computer. Insert the picture into your response.
· Write Three things you like about your community (three short sentences).
· Write One thing you would like to change about your community and why (one short sentence).Entry 2: Region and Faultlines
This entry asks you to identify the region you live in and to think about what Robert Bone means when he discusses “faultlines.”
Start a new entry in your Final Project journal and title it: “Region and Faultlines.” Answer the following questions:
1. Which of Bone’s regions does your location fall into?
2. Please insert one photo or link to a video illustrating your answers to the question below.
(For this and future entries, remember to add the copyright information to the bottom of your image if you have not taken the photo or video yourself).
3. Consider Bone’s discussion of faultlines as sources of tension in our Canadian fabric. What evidence do you see of one or more faultlines in your location? Describe briefly (approx. 100 words) why you think one or more faultline is evident in your region.
Entry 3: Historical Roots
Title an entry in your Final Project journal “Historical Roots” and:
1. Describe an element of the landscape that illustrates the historical geography of your region (~100 words).
2. Insert a photo showing evidence of the history described above. The photo should be a contemporary one that captures evidence of your region’s historical past.Entry 4: Art and/or Literature

Instructions:
As previously discussed in class, you are to create a PowerPoint presentation that contains at least 10 content slides regarding a specific aspect of the economic geography of the country that you have chosen to study this semester. As explained in class, your presentation should focus around a specific topic or concept from this course that you believe is particularly significant for this country. Through your content slides, you must provide examples of how this not only illustrates important aspects of certain economic concepts, but how it also illustrates geographic concepts.
Each slide must contain at least 50 words of discussion and a supporting image (map, picture, graph, etc.). Please be sure that your supporting images are specific to the place of study, and your discussion comments should connect with the image. You must conclude your presentation with at least one additional slide that contains your learning reflections(at least 250 words) on your key “take aways” regarding the economic geography of this place through the assignments, as well as any other material you were exposed to through this course.
For students who are Education majors taking this course (or for anyone else who might be interested), another approach would be to choose one of the DESE competencies associated with this course (as indicated on the syllabus), and then construct your content slides around how you might teach that topic (i.e., essentially propose a lesson plan). Of course, if you choose an economic focused competency, you will need to be sure to clearly indicate how you will also connect those concepts to geographic perspectives, and vice versa.
Although this isn’t a formal research paper, you should still cite the source (or sources) of your content on each slide, and you must include a works cited slide. There is not a specific number of sources that you must use, however, for a presentation of this length, you should really have an absolute minimum of at least 3 different sources. Remember that I do not care what citation method you use (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.) as long as you use the same method consistently throughout your entire project. If you use online sources, use credible source materials (for example, Wikipedia is a good place to get images and useful links to source cites, but it is NOT an adequate source of information). Also, don’t forget that any sentences you choose to directly copy from any source, MUST be put in quotation marks and directly cited. Failing to do this even just one time is considered plagiarism.
You will be required to share your presentation in class during our scheduled Final Exam Period, which is on Tuesday, May 3, from 10:15-12:15. 15% of your score for this project will be based simply on whether or not you present your project to our class during this period. You should upload your presentation in Canvas BEFORE our fin.

Since the instructions for the final project are standardized and provided by the department, I thought you might appreciate some pointers and key areas of focus to help you navigate this project! Use this in conjunction with your syllabus instructions, which contain detailed content instructions.
Read the syllabus instructions VERY carefully, pay attention to the requirements embedded in the sentences. In fact, I would construct each heading and subheading (YES, use APA formatted subheadings) according to the required areas listed in your instructions. Here are some formatting directions for subheadings and a rough example for organization of your project with subheadings.
APA Headings Level Formatting Guidelines:
1 Centered, Boldface, Uppercase and Lowercase
2 Left-aligned, Boldface, Uppercase and Lowercase Heading
3 Indented, boldface, lowercase heading with a period. Begin body text after the period.
4 Indented, boldface, italicized, lowercase heading with a period. Begin body text after the period.
5 Indented, italicized, lowercase heading with a period. Begin body text after the period.
Example:
1st page is the TITLE PAGE with Running head- refer to APA guidelines
See how I used proper capitalization for my running head?
Running head: GENDER TRAINING IN THE WORKPLACE
2nd page and remaining pages... The body of your project training program and report. Look up APA formatting: double space entire body, font 12-Times New Roman, 1” margins all sides. Make sure you use proper APA citations in the text (McCarty, 2016) and that those resources are listed on the reference page, including the journal and website citations that you chose.
Introduction and Identification of Problems (1st level)
Participant Name and Problem #1
(You will do this 12 times) (2nd level subheading, left justified, paragraph begins
next line after heading-double space. I will not double space the rest of this example to save space, but don’t forget to do it! Make sure you check your settings to be a true double space-nothing less and nothing more)
Training Program: Session One (8 of these)
Session One Title (2nd level)
Gender and Hostility in the Workplace
Objectives (2nd level)
The goal of this course is to
· define gender,
· define hostility,
· identify areas of hostility…(You can use bullets and or level three subheadings to list/organize).
Problem (2nd level)
State the participants problem(s) you will address with this session
Journal articles and websites
Journal. List one or more peer review (ACADEMIC) article(s) that is relevant to the issue/problem using an APA formatted reference.

How to complete the
Vocabulary Presentation
What is it
A vocabulary presentation is a power point that will present ten vocabulary words. The presentations make it easier to learn the words. You will use your classmate’s presentations to complete our vocabulary assignments during the semester.
How to
Each student has one set of ten words. You are to create a power point for the ten words. Each slide of the power point will have one vocabulary word, it’s definition and a picture. The definition cannot be copied and pasted from the internet. Use your own words. It can and should be short.
The picture
Pictures are very subjective as you can well imagine. What is beautiful to one person might not be provocative to another. Keep that in mind when you add a picture. I would prefer you think of what represents the word and then look for a picture. Please do not just Google the word for an image. That will not help you learn.
Which one is yours
After you complete viewing this presentation you will add your name to the vocabulary list You will see the list in the Welcome page.
How to submit
Once you are done with please submit your power point in the Vocabulary Presentations Discussion board. The link is available in our Blackboard course.
Important
Very important, please add your chapter number in the subject line.
The next slide is an example of one word.
Loquacious
Talkative
Let me know if you have any questions. If you like you can complete an extra chapter for 20 points.

RESEARCH ASSIGNMENT 8
Tax Practice & Procedure
( Please submit as a
Word document by email by
4:00 p.m. on Thursday, 10/27. )
This assignment is worth up to a maximum of
six (6) points – two items worth up to three (3) points each. Your work should be written
in your own words without any “cutting & pasting” from the source document(s) you cite except that very brief quotations are acceptable if properly attributed. Points
will be deducted for (i) spelling and grammatical errors that Word highlighted but you failed to correct and (ii) other egregious errors, including substantive misstatements.
Any submissions received after 4:00 p.m. will be worth up to four points only. Submissions not received by 7:00 p.m. will not be scored (zero points).

Item 1: One of the delightful events of any tax year is the early January release of the National Taxpayer Advocate’s Annual Report to Congress. In turn, one of the most anticipated parts of that Report is the annual “top 10 list” – that is, the
Most Litigated Issues list.
The
2021 Annual Report contained a surprise – namely, the Most Litigated Issues list became
two lists: (1) the “h.
Week 4 Assignment-Fair Value DUE DATE Sunday midnight of.docxcockekeshia
Week 4 Assignment-Fair Value
DUE DATE: Sunday midnight of Week 4, submitted in a MS Word (or Excel if
computations required) document with filename format:
Last First_Week X hwk.doc or .xls Make sure your name appears on each page of the
homework using the header function.
Homework questions:
1. The Fair Value requirement has been blamed by some for the credit market crunch that
started in 2007, worsened in 2008 and continues into 2009. Discuss what effect you
think Fair Value had on financial institutions and why some believe that it precipitated
the current economic recession. Do you agree or disagree that Fair Value caused the
collapse of the mortgage and lending markets? There are a number of good articles and
links to help you with this such as the article in the Web Links page from the January 20,
2009 Boston Globe about the impact on State Street Corporation’s capital from
potentially having to permanently write down the value of assets (it will help you
understand how marking down the value of assets impacts the banks’ capital, and how in
turn, this impacts their ability to lend). Also, the JOA May 2008 3 Articles with view pro
and con about Fair Value vs. Historic Cost. There are a number of other readings to help
with this topic or you may gather your own-please share them if you would on the student
section of the Web Links page.
2. You are the CFO of a publicly traded company and are getting ready to prepare you year-
end financial statements. In your investment portfolio you have:
a. Long-term bank CD’s
b. Stock holdings in 5 publicly traded companies
c. Stock holdings in 2 privately held companies
d. Investment in a real estate trust (REIT) which owns strip malls and other
commercial buildings for retail establishments. This trust trades on a market
with other similar trusts, although the trades are infrequent. Take into account
the current real estate market when evaluating this investment.
e. Private equity investment in a joint venture for the development of a new
green energy method to produce electricity.
f. Complex foreign currency hedges that were custom-designed by an
investment bank for the company, to hedge their exchange rate exposure on
overseas transactions.
What level for evaluation would each fall into and what method(s) would you use to
determine the fair value of each? How easy or difficult would each be and why? The Nov
16, 2008 Financial Week Article on the Web Links page about Illiquid Bank Assets may
help with this question.
3. Find the financial statements of a publicly traded company that has measured assets
and/or liabilities at fair value. You will find this information in the footnotes (just open
up the document and search the page with either Fair Value or FAS 157 as a key word).
What financial ratios (name at least 2) could be affected by the difference between
measuring these assets at historic cost vs. fair val.

MLA Format: double spaced, using New Times Roman 12-point font with one-inch margins. In addition to analysis (1900 words min.), works cited page using MLA style shall be included. Cite all references & use intext citations. (Page: 1-inch margins, 12-point Times New Roman font, & minimal spacing elements)
The following questions are suggestions for information to research for country paper to write & develop your analysis. Do not answer the questions for your paper; following are ideas to consider what to research.
Think S.W.O.T. - Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats
Examine the geopolitical realities:
Do geographical barriers protect the country from external threats? Do the ethnic, religious, cultural, and educational characteristics effect the country? What is the system of government & how is political stability of the country?
Look at the government structure: does government allow vibrant trade or it interfere? Address possible implications of not being self-sufficient with regards to feeding, educating & employing its citizens. Is the militarily vulnerable? Is economy diverse? Is the country economically powerful? Is the country a member of regional economic organizations? How stable is the country & the region they are in? What are the destabilizing forces? Are their tensions between major actors?
Examine the economic realities:
Is this a developed or developing nation? Look at agricultural & manufacturing sectors and the country’s natural resources. Does infrastructure accommodate economic activity (I.E. ports, rails, rivers, universities)? What are the major exports and imports (for describing trade flows - who they trade with)? Is work force skilled/unskilled & professional? Look at economic and trade indicators such as per capita GDP, exports and imports as a percentage of GDP, etc.
Analysis:
Taking into account the information described above, describe the country’s economic & political aspects, strengths and weaknesses of country, and address any challenges or potential liabilities posed by internal or external threats.
Address the country’s future as your research develops. What does country need to do to prosper & develop? Identify the pitfalls to be avoided. Does the future hold peace & stability or conflict? Again Think S.W.O.T.

Paper 1: Proposal
Fall 2013
Due Date Oct 8th
Guidelines: (Note: Keep these guidelines. They will not be on all assignment handouts. Everything except the page-count applies to all of the papers we will be working on).
Format:
Font: All: 12 cpi/normal default setting.
Style of Font: All: Tms Roman or New Tms Roman.
Margins: All: Top, Bottom, Left, and Right @ 1" for all sides. Left-side justification only.
Text Spacing Between Roman Numeral Subheadings: Double Space after and before a subheading. All subheadings should be
in 12 cpi font and be in bold.
Text Spacing Between Graphics/Visuals: What's Proportionate to in-graphic text comments and/or "keys." (Normally two
double-spaces before and after visual).
Total Page Count:Minimum: 6 pages DS. Maximum: 8+ pages DS.
Unacceptable Visuals: (Not Applicable to Proposal)
1) Photocopies (use "*scan-in" text document forms for visuals). 2) Non-Computer-Aided Drawings/illustrations/Graphs (Use a CAD software program). *Use graphics that are generated, designed by you; often downloadable graphics are not acceptable for publication for legal reasons. Also, if they are downloadable from the I-net or CD-ROM software, they "cheapen" the integrity of what you are trying to accomplish. In this way, you will avoid legal issues attached to copyrights and "fair-use" limitations. Visuals must be clear, have a tendency to be self-explanatory, have high resolution, and be in color where applicable (Note: to get proper depth perception, we need to show third dimensions--3d), and have
"Keyed," self-referencing process explanations either within the text or with the graphic itself. All visuals need to be internally referenced within the text as parenthetical citations. Example: (See Fig. 2-4, 5). Also, don't forget to "support" your \visuals by providing textual or word explanations for them.
Your name: (Last, then First--an example: Records, Monty) one-inch (I") down from the Left- side margin. Page one, the first page with your name, is not numbered. Subsequent pages after page one will have your Last Name Only and Page Number in the upper Right-hand Comer of the page, one-inch (1") down from the Top of the page (example: Records 2, Records 3, etc). Leave two (2) spaces between the last letter of your name and the page number.
Title: After you type your name, Triple-Single Space (3 single spaces), type the name of the Title to the Proposal, and then center it in the middle of the page. You should give a creative indication to the Title--examples in 12 cpi font:
Impact of Poverty within the Terre Haute Community: A Proposal Concerning Social Issues
OR:
Proposed Study of Robotic Technology as it Applies to Automotive Manufacturing
OR:
Electrical Efficiency in Three-Phase Inductive Motors: Proposed Guidelines for Use in Industrial Applications
After the title has been typed in 12 cpi font, centered,.

Explore the Issue Papers
You will choose a topic from the Complete Marriage and Family Home Reference Guide to study more closely. In 4–6 pages, you will compare current knowledge with facts from research and then examine the chosen topic from both a psychological and a theological perspective.
1. Briefly provide your initial thoughts on the topic. This section will not require source material. The purpose is simply for you to identify what you know about this topic. You may discuss facts, a biblical perspective, the moral dilemma involved in the topic, or just your thoughts around the topic. This section must be 1 page.
2. Look at the research that has been done on the topic. This section must be well-organized with headings and subheadings and must include at least 4 empirical sources. This section must be 2–3 pages. You may consider, but are not confined to, the following prompts and questions:
· Check some of what you know against what research has to say. How could this topic affect a marriage or family?
· What are benefits and consequences of approaching this topic and working through it within the affected family unit?
3. Compare the psychological and theological perspectives of the topic. The point here is to compare what the research says about the topic to what the Bible says about the topic. Not all of the topics from "The Quick-Reference Guide to Marriage and Family Counseling" are directly mentioned in the Bible. However, you may use biblical principles and discuss similarities and discrepancies found between these 2 perspectives. This section must be 1–2 pages.
4. The conclusion of this paper must include a good summary of the information provided in the preceding 3 sections. You must also provide an idea for future study of the topic. What further information could be provided in relation to this topic? For example, what are some variables that play a part of depression in marriage? Is depression within marriage easier to work through if the depression is a result of a mood disorder or of circumstances outside of the marriage?
5. Correct current APA formatting must be implemented throughout this paper, including avoiding first person and using properly formatted citations and headings. A title page and references page must be included; however, an abstract will NOT be necessary for this assignment. Assignment instructions and the grading rubric must be carefully reviewed to ensure that all assignment criteria are met.

Experimental and Quasi-Experimental DesignsChapter 5.docxelbanglis
Experimental and Quasi-Experimental Designs
Chapter 5
*
Introduction
Experiments are best suited for explanation and evaluation research
Experiments involve:
Taking action
Observing the consequences of that action
Especially suited for hypothesis testing
Often occur in the field
The Classical Experiment Classical experiment: a specific way of structuring researchInvolves three major components:
Independent variable and dependent variable
Pretesting and posttesting
Experimental group and control group
Independent and Dependent Variables
The independent variable takes the form of a dichotomous stimulus that is either present or absent
It varies (i.e., is independent) in our experimental process
The dependent variable is the outcome, the effect we expect to see
Might be physical conditions, social behavior, attitudes, feelings, or beliefs
Pretesting and Posttesting
Subjects are initially measured in terms of the DV prior to association with the IV (pretested)
Then, they are exposed to the IV
Then, they are remeasured in terms of the DV (posttested)
Differences noted between the measurements on the DV are attributed to influence of IV
Experimental and Control Groups
Experimental group: exposed to whatever treatment, policy, initiative we are testing
Control group: very similar to experimental group, except that they are NOT exposed
Can involve more than one experimental or control group
If we see a difference, we want to make sure it is due to the IV, and not to a difference between the two groups
Placebo
We often don’t want people to know if they are receiving treatment or not
We expose our control group to a “dummy” independent variable just so we are treating everyone the same
Medical research: participants don’t know what they are taking
Ensures that changes in DV actually result from IV and are not psychologically based
Double-Blind Experiment
Experimenters may be more likely to “observe” improvements among those who received drug
In a double-blind experiment, neither the subjects nor the experimenters know which is the experimental group and which is the control group
Selecting Subjects
First, must decide on target population – the group to which the results of your experiment will apply
Second, must decide how to select particular members from that group for your experiment
Cardinal rule – ensure that experimental and control groups are as similar as possible
RandomizationRandomization: produces an experimental and control group that are statistically equivalentEssential feature of experimentsEliminates systematic bias
Experiments and Causal Inference
Experimental design ensures:
Cause precedes effect via taking posttest
Empirical correlation exists via comparing pretest to posttest
No spurious 3rd variable influencing correlation via posttest comparison between experimental and control groups, and via randomization
Example of Research Using an Experimental Design
Researchers at the University of Marylan ...

Each essay must include a properly formatted cover page (see above), double-spaced text, Times New Roman 12pt font, 1-inch margins, as well as full endnote-style citations for paraphrasing and quotations in accordance with the Author Guide, Section 5.5. Endnotes are not counted as part of your total word count. The, Appendix A provides examples of endnote formats. Do not include a bibliography in these short essay assignments; however, ensure your full endnotes contain all source information.
Use quotation marks when you quote directly from the work of other writers. This is a relatively short assignment, so use block quotations sparingly to allow your own original thoughts to shine through.
You may notice minor variations between your consolidated lesson readers, which require different endnote formats. Some bundle the readings into a single document with continuous pagination (see example endnote 1 at the end of this document).
Other lesson readers retain each author’s original pagination (see example note 2).
You should use the author’s original pagination wherever it is possible to do so. Remember, cite any material used from the instructional narrative portion of the consolidated lesson reading file with “as the author (see example endnote 3).
The midterm and final essay exams are academic papers; write each in a narrative style, not a bullet/point paper. Refer to the assignment rubric located in your Grade Center for grading criteria. If you have any questions, contact your course instructor.
Much like your next level of leadership, the program requires effective writing founded on critical thinking and communication skills. Each essay you write as you progress toward graduation provides an opportunity for you to hone these abilities. Additionally, these assignments comprise a large portion of your final grade in each course. Therefore, successful course completion is contingent on your writing performance. The most ...

Expansion and Isolationism in Eurasia
How did approaches to cultural interaction shape empires in Eurasia?
Introduction
In 1279, under the leadership of Kublai Khan, the Mongols ousted the Song dynasty
and completed their conquest of China. As they
took control, they established the Yuan dynasty,
with Kublai Khan serving as emperor. However,
Mongol rule over China was relatively short lived.
Within 100 years, the Yuan dynasty would be
forced out by Chinese rebels.
Under Mongol rule, the Chinese became
increasingly angered by policies that favored
Mongols and foreigners. This anger and resentment
eventually resulted in unrest. Around 1350, small
states in China began to emerge to fight the
Mongols. Chinese leaders turned to military force to
advance their interests and establish regional
power. Some leaders were members of the upper class, and others were religious
leaders or bandits supported by peasants. By the middle of the 1350s, these Chinese
powers were united in their campaign to get rid of Mongol rule.
The years of ongoing warfare spurred military innovation among the Chinese.
Although the Mongols had access to gunpowder weapons, they did not develop new
technologies. In contrast, the first large cannons in China were manufactured by the
Chinese rebels. While the term “Gunpowder Empire” is often associated with the
Ottoman Empire, the Safavid Empire, and the Mughal Empire, the Chinese
advancements in gunpowder weaponry has led some historians to regard Ming China
as the world’s first gunpowder empire.

Expansion and Isolationism in Eurasia
How did approaches to cultural interaction shape empires in Eurasia?
In this lesson, you will learn about three countries in Eurasia that used gunpowder
to expand and maintain their control: China, Japan, and Russia. You will consider the
rise and fall of the Ming and Qing dynasties in China. You will examine the unification of
Japan under the Tokugawa. Finally, you will explore the growth of the Russian Empire
during the Romanov dynasty.
Section 1. China Under the Ming and Qing
Between the 14th and the early 20th centuries,
two dynasties governed China: the Ming and the Qing.
Both dynasties took power during times of upheaval.
To restore order, they established strong, centralized
rule and revived traditional Chinese values, including
Confucian ideals.
The Ming Revival By the mid-1300s, China was in
turmoil. The Mongols’ hold on power had became
unstable. Disease and natural disasters had weakened
the Mongol grip. Additionally, feuds broke out within the government, leaving the
countryside unprotected against bandits and rebels.
As life became more dangerous and difficult, Chinese peasants grew increasingly
frustrated with the incompetence of their rulers. Led by Zhu Yuanzhang, a peasant
uprising successfully invaded the city of Nanjing. In 1368, aided by gunpowder
weapons, Zhu and his army capt ...

MEDIA PLAN TO BOOK?
Optimedia's Antony Young Analyzes the Media Strategies
Behind Rival Travel Sites
By Antony Young
Published: June 30, 2010
As schools break for summer, some families -- like mine -- are still planning their vacations. So I
took a look at two prominent travel sites, Expedia and Priceline, to see which one's media strategy
is likely to attract more trip planners.
Their media plans are especially important as the travel industry picks up after a tough 2009.
Demand for flights and hotels are rebounding and so, too, are airfares and room rates. With
slimmer margins on airline tickets, hotels have very much become the major battleground for
Expedia and Priceline and this is reflected in the focus of their advertising. Online Travel Agencies
(OTA's) accounted for 34.7% of all U.S. hotel bookings in the first quarter of 2010, up from 27.8% in
2009, Priceline CMO Brett Keller said in a recent speech.
Creative executions
Expedia launched a new branding campaign for 2010. Its tagline, "Where you book matters,"
accompanied a new logo incorporated into its creative messaging. The campaign, which targets
frequent leisure travelers, launched Dec. 26 with commercials featuring a visual metaphor of
building blocks as a way to demonstrate how consumers interact with Expedia. The first spot starts
with upbeat soft-rock music narrated by an unseen woman dictating her specifications for the
perfect "girls' weekend." She talks about having multiple hotel options and the ability to compare
dates for the best savings. Expedia's signature "dot coooom" jingle ends the spot. A spot with a
man's voice and trip goals was launched in February.
http://adage.com/
Priceline has built its position in the market on the opportunity for customers to name their own
price, brought to life through some hilarious spots fronted by pitchman William Shatner. This year,
Shatner introduced his new sidekick "Big Deal," a 520 lb 6'5" character who helps persuade hotels
to take a deal. In February, the Big Deal ads were joined by new creative that featured the
Negotiator's "Evil Twin" (played, of course, by Shatner). Priceline takes a karate chop at
Expedia.com (and Hotels.com), claiming that Priceline can get prices 50% lower.
The strategies of the two companies differed noticeably. Expedia.com attracted 16.7 million unique
visitors in May, 59% more than the 10.5 million who visited Priceline.com, according to ComScore.
And Expedia media seems to reflect this, promoting the site as the generic travel brand for a broad
audience and highlighting its full range of services and travel destinations. Priceline is more single-
mindedly focused on price, and its media appears to target lower down the purchase funnel with an
emphasis on converting transactions.

Experiments with duckweed–moth systems suggest that
global warming may reduce rather than promote
herbivory
TJISSE VAN DER HEIDE, RUDI M. M. ROIJACKERS, EDWIN T. H. M. PEETERS AND
EGBERT H. VAN NES
Department of Environmental Sciences, Aquatic Ecology and Water Quality Management group, Wageningen University,
Wageningen, The Netherlands
SUMMARY
1. Wilf & Labandeira (1999) suggested that increased temperatures because of global
warming will cause an increase in herbivory by insects. This conclusion was based on the
supposed effect of temperature on herbivores but did not consider an effect of temperature
on plant growth.
2. We studied the effect of temperature on grazing pressure by the small China-mark moth
(Cataclysta lemnata L.) on Lemna minor L. in laboratory experiments.
3. Between temperatures of 15 and 24 C we found a sigmoidal increase in C. lemnata
grazing rates, and an approximately linear increase in L. minor growth rates. Therefore, an
increase in temperature did not always result in higher grazing pressure by this insect as
the regrowth of Lemna changes also.
4. At temperatures below 18.7 C, Lemna benefited more than Cataclysta from an increase in
temperature, causing a decrease in grazing pressure.
5. In the context of global warming, we conclude that rising temperatures will not
necessarily increase grazing pressure by herbivorous insects.
Keywords: Cataclysta, grazing, herbivory, Lemna, temperature
Introduction
Duckweeds (Lemnaceae) are often abundant in dit-
ches and ponds (Landolt, 1986). Especially when
nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations in the water
column are high, the surface area can become covered
with dense floating mats of duckweed (Lüönd, 1980,
1983; Portielje & Roijackers, 1995). These mats have
large impacts on freshwater ecosystems, restricting
oxygen supply (Pokorny & Rejmánková, 1983), light
availability of algae and submerged macrophytes
(Wolek, 1974) and temperature fluxes (Dale &
Gillespie, 1976; Landolt, 1986; Goldsborough, 1993).
These changed conditions often have a negative effect
on the biodiversity of the ecosystem (Janse & van
Puijenbroek, 1998). Other free-floating plants such as
red water fern (Azolla filiculoides), water hyacinth
(Eichhornia crassipes) and water lettuce (Pistia stratiotes)
often cause serious problems in tropical and sub-
tropical regions (Mehra et al., 1999; Hill, 2003).
Various species of herbivorous insects consume
free-floating macrophytes. Several species of weevils
(Coleoptera: Curculionidae) are able to consume large
amounts of red water fern, water hyacinth and water
lettuce (Cilliers, 1991; Hill & Cilliers, 1999; Aguilar
et al., 2003), while the larvae of the semi-aquatic Small
China-mark moth (Cataclysta lemnata) are capable of
removing large parts of floating cover of Lemnaceae
covers (Wesenberg-Lund, 1943). Duckweed is not
only used as food source, but also as building material

computations required) document with filename format:
What financial ratios (name at least 2) could be affected by the difference between
measuring these assets at historic cost vs. fair val.

The concept of colorism within various communities of color has plague those with darker skin complexions and afforded others with lighter skin tones with privilege and the ability to use their lightskinned privilege to navigate a world of racial and identity politics. In your essay, demonstrate how complex issues around colorism proposes on both sides of the spectrum. What are the overarching themes and concerns that presents itself with color being at the center of social, cultural, political and economic opportunities in our society. Present in your essay, why most people tend to cater toward lighter-skinned individuals versus darker-skinned individuals and how this provides a hierarchy of racial positionality, and a level of social status and privilege
Show through quotes, analysis, and the use of other sources how colorism and anti-blackness work as a contrived system to incarcerate black and brown people from a mental and psychological perspective. Draw upon historic evidence to support your claims. Carefully consider all the readings you have critiqued, and used
them as a point of entry to make your position. In your essay of five pages, discuss whether or not you believe colorism negatively or positively impact black in brown folks in society at large.

Country Economic & Geopolitical Analysis Outline
Country Analysis & Presentation: Assignment is an analysis detailing economic and geopolitical concerns for your country (about 6 written pages, about 1900-2500 words, with additional Works Cited page). Consider paper a ‘macro’ approach to how your country functions in our ‘Globalized World’.
PSC 100 – Relating to Clark/Sage chapters 5, 6 & 7
PSC 102 – Relating to Art/Jervis political economy & Goldstein textbook

Effective, purposeful communication is essential in the military profession. Following these instructions will help you properly complete your writing assignment and will improve your chances for success.
This template exemplifies the format for essays.

EXPEDIA VS. PRICELINE -- WHOSE

TJISSE VAN DER HEIDE, RUDI M. M. ROIJACKERS, EDWIN T. H. M. PEETERS AND
EGBERT H. VAN NES
Department of Environmental Sciences, Aquatic Ecology and Water Quality Management group, Wageningen University,
Wageningen, The Netherlands
SUMMARY
1. Wilf & Labandeira (1999) suggested that increased temperatures because of global
warming will cause an increase in herbivory by insects. This conclusion was based on the
supposed effect of temperature on herbivores but did not consider an effect of temperature
on plant growth.
2. We studied the effect of temperature on grazing pressure by the small China-mark moth
(Cataclysta lemnata L.) on Lemna minor L. in laboratory experiments.
3. Between temperatures of 15 and 24 C we found a sigmoidal increase in C. lemnata
grazing rates, and an approximately linear increase in L. minor growth rates. Therefore, an
increase in temperature did not always result in higher grazing pressure by this insect as
the regrowth of Lemna changes also.
4. At temperatures below 18.7 C, Lemna benefited more than Cataclysta from an increase in
temperature, causing a decrease in grazing pressure.
5. In the context of global warming, we conclude that rising temperatures will not
necessarily increase grazing pressure by herbivorous insects.
Keywords: Cataclysta, grazing, herbivory, Lemna, temperature
Introduction
Duckweeds (Lemnaceae) are often abundant in dit-
ches and ponds (Landolt, 1986). Especially when
nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations in the water
column are high, the surface area can become covered
with dense floating mats of duckweed (Lüönd, 1980,
1983; Portielje & Roijackers, 1995). These mats have
large impacts on freshwater ecosystems, restricting
oxygen supply (Pokorny & Rejmánková, 1983), light
availability of algae and submerged macrophytes
(Wolek, 1974) and temperature fluxes (Dale &
Gillespie, 1976; Landolt, 1986; Goldsborough, 1993).
These changed conditions often have a negative effect
on the biodiversity of the ecosystem (Janse & van
Puijenbroek, 1998). Other free-floating plants such as
red water fern (Azolla filiculoides), water hyacinth
(Eichhornia crassipes) and water lettuce (Pistia stratiotes)
often cause serious problems in tropical and sub-
tropical regions (Mehra et al., 1999; Hill, 2003).
Various species of herbivorous insects consume
free-floating macrophytes. Several species of weevils
(Coleoptera: Curculionidae) are able to consume large
amounts of red water fern, water hyacinth and water
lettuce (Cilliers, 1991; Hill & Cilliers, 1999; Aguilar
et al., 2003), while the larvae of the semi-aquatic Small
China-mark moth (Cataclysta lemnata) are capable of
removing large parts of floating cover of Lemnaceae
covers (Wesenberg-Lund, 1943). Duckweed is not
only used as food source, but also as building material

Exercises III: Reflective Listening
Reflective Listening I
Instructions: People communicate words and ideas, and sometimes it seems appropriate to respond to the content of what someone has just said. Behind the words, however, lie the feelings. Often it is most helpful to respond to the feelings.
Following are statements made by people with problems. For each statement, first identify the feeling; write down the word you think best describes how the person might be feeling. Next, write a brief empathic response—a short sentence that includes the feeling. Refer to the sample openers provided in Chapter 7 under the heading “Useful Responses.”
1. “When I was in court, the defense attorney really pounded me. You know, like he thought I was lying or didn’t believe me or thought I was exaggerating.”
FEELING:
EMPATHIC RESPONSE:
2. “Those dirty, lousy creeps! Everything was fine in my life, and they really, really ruined everything! I don’t care if I go on or not. Why live if someone can just take everything away from you in one night?”
FEELING:
EMPATHIC RESPONSE:
3. “I know you said this is temporary housing and all, but I never had a place like this place. I can’t stand to think I have to move again sometime, and God knows where I’ll go.”

CASE STUDY 9
ST. LUKE'S HEALTH CARE SYSTEM
Hospitals have been some of the earliest adopters of wireless local area
networks (WLANs). The clinician user population is typically mobile and
spread out across a number of buildings, with a need to enter and access
data in real time. St. Luke's Episcopal Health System in Houston, Texas
(www.stlukestexas.com) is a good example of a hospital that has made
effective use wireless technologies to streamline clinical work processes.
Their wireless network is distributed throughout several hospital buildings
and is used in many different applications. The majority of the St. Luke’s
staff uses wireless devices to access data in real-time, 24 hours a day.
Examples include the following:
• Diagnosing patients and charting their progress: Doctors and
nurses use wireless laptops and tablet PCs to track and chart patient
care data.
• Prescriptions: Medications are dispensed from a cart that is wheeled
from room to room. Clinician uses a wireless scanner to scan the
patient's ID bracelet. If a prescription order has been changed or
cancelled, the clinician will know immediately because the mobile device
displays current patient data.
http://www.stlukestexas.com/
C9-2
• Critical care units: These areas use the WLAN because running hard
wires would mean moving ceiling panels. The dust and microbes that
such work stirs up would pose a threat to patients.
• Case management: The case managers in the Utilization Management
Department use the WLAN to document patient reviews, insurance
calls/authorization information, and denial information. The wireless
session enables real time access to information that ensures the correct
level of care for a patient and/or timely discharge.
• Blood management: Blood management is a complex process that
involves monitoring both patients and blood products during all stages of
a treatment process. To ensure that blood products and patients are
matched correctly, St. Luke’s uses a wireless bar code scanning process
that involves scanning both patient and blood product bar codes during
the infusion process. This enables clinicians to confirm patient and blood
product identification before proceeding with t ...

Entry 1 Sense of PlaceYour first entry will provide you with an o.docx
1. Entry 1: Sense of Place
Your first entry will provide you with an opportunity to share
your about your location. Using the tools provided, you will
create a marker and place it on an interactive online map, and
use your posting to describe some features and elements of your
community. As each student completes this part of the
assignment, more markers will appear on the map. Take time to
view other markers and learn something about different
communities! You will also enter the information into your
journal.
The information required for Entry 1 is:
1. House Photo
. The average house price in Canada as of January 2019 was
$472,000. What can you buy for that price in your community?
. Go to the website of a real estate agent who works in the
community you are going to share about, and find a house or
property listed as close to $472,000 as possible.
. Right click the photo and save a copy to your computer. Insert
the picture into your response.
. Write down the house/property address since you’ll be asked
for that information when you enter data into a form.
. Write down copyright information (source website URL).
· Typical Geography Photo
. Use your own camera to take a picture of the geography that
you want to share with others. If you can’t take your own photo,
search the internet for a picture that shows the typical
geography and also note the source URL to provide the
appropriate copyright details.
. Download the photo onto your computer. Insert the picture
into your response.
· Write Three things you like about your community (three short
sentences).
· Write One thing you would like to change about your
community and why (one short sentence).Entry 2: Region and
Faultlines
2. This entry asks you to identify the region you live in and to
think about what Robert Bone means when he discusses
“faultlines.”
Start a new entry in your Final Project journal and title it:
“Region and Faultlines.” Answer the following questions:
1. Which of Bone’s regions does your location fall into?
2. Please insert one photo or link to a video illustrating your
answers to the question below.
(For this and future entries, remember to add the copyright
information to the bottom of your image if you have not taken
the photo or video yourself).
3. Consider Bone’s discussion of faultlines as sources of tension
in our Canadian fabric. What evidence do you see of one or
more faultlines in your location? Describe briefly (approx. 100
words) why you think one or more faultline is evident in your
region.
Entry 3: Historical Roots
Title an entry in your Final Project journal “Historical Roots”
and:
1. Describe an element of the landscape that illustrates the
historical geography of your region (~100 words).
2. Insert a photo showing evidence of the history described
above. The photo should be a contemporary one that captures
evidence of your region’s historical past.Entry 4: Art and/or
Literature
Title an entry in your journal “Art and/or Literature,” and share
analysis about your location in terms of how it is represented in
an artistic painting, literary work, or film. Identify an artistic
piece, and then answer the questions below to analyze it for its
representation of regional characteristics.
For your entry, please provide the following:
1. An image of the piece that you are analyzing (for a film or
video, a screen capture of a shot is sufficient)
2. A title and artist name to identify the piece
3. In approximately 100 words, elaborate on how this artistic
piece uses characteristics of your region.Entry 5: The Future
3. In your Final Project document, create an entrytitled “The
Future,” and answer the following question:
1. What do you think the “human face” of your region will look
like in 25 years? Why? (~100 words). When selecting an image
to illustrate your answer, we realize that you won’t be able to
take a picture of something that doesn’t exist yet! So feel free
to exercise your drawing talents, or for those of you panicking
at the thought of drawing (myself included!), you can be
creative when selecting an image. For example, if I was going
to identify the continued demographic expansion of Vancouver
by immigrants from Asia as a possible future development, I
might choose to show: i) a picture of a map with those countries
of origin, or perhaps ii) a picture of Chinatown, or perhaps iii) a
figure showing how immigration has increased in the last 20
years or so, a trend that could be projected into the future.
Regional Report (30% Part II of the Final Project)
In this part of the Final Project, you will analyze one region of
Canada. Select a region to write about that is not the region that
you are using for the mapping exercise (e.g., not the region you
are living in (perhaps for school), or not your “home” region).
Choose one of the six regions of Canada and write a 1500 word
report (approximately 6 written pages, double-spaced),
supported by figures, tables, and maps. Make full use of the
material in your textbook, but also use the Statistics
Canada website or publications available at your local library,
newspapers, magazines, books, the internet, the TRU student
library service, and other sources to find up‐to‐date
information. Please use a minimum of six external resources,
including peer-reviewed journals.
You are encouraged to use sub-headings to separate sections of
your report, although you are free to organize your report in any
way you wish. Frame your report with an introduction and
conclusion, and include a title page. Similar to the written
assignments, you will use APA citation format. Be sure to look
at the grading rubric as a guide for how marks are awarded!
Include information of the following:
4. · Describe the dominant (or top one, two, or three) economic
activities in the region.
· Provide a brief overview of the natural resources that can be
found in your region, along with an assessment of how much
they contribute to the region’s economy.
· Identify the population density, and describe how the
population is concentrated or dispersed. Is there evidence that
your region is seeing an increase or decrease of people since
2001? Where (in what geographic area) is growth occurring (if
it is occurring)? If it is not occurring, where (what geographic
area or place) in the region are people leaving? Describe one or
two reasons (with references) for this pattern.
· From the above, identify where you think the core areas are
and where you think the periphery areas are. Do you think the
region is rapidly growing, slow growing, or diminishing in
terms of its economy (as per Friedman’s core/periphery model
outlined in Chapter 1)?
· What evidence is there for your conclusion?
· Identify and describe one of Bone’s faultlines that is evident
in the region. Is the faultline currently dormant, or is it active
(see page 10 of your textbook)? Elaborate on what you think
this faultline will look like in 10 years—will it exist? Will it be
active and prominent? Why or why not? You are encouraged to
include other thoughts.
· Conclude your report by identifying what you think is the
greatest challenge facing people of the region in the next 10
years. This challenge may be economic, social, demographic, or
be rooted in natural resource use. Explain why you think this
challenge is paramount to the people of the region. Identify two
ways that this challenge could be overcome.

system is working. If all of your journal entries arein balance
then the Unadjusted Trial Balance and the Adjusting Entry
columns will balance. TheAdjusted Trial Balance columns net
the Unadjusted Trial Balance and the Adjusting Entry
columns. There are four steps to completing the worksheet:1.
Copy the account balances from the Adjusted Trial Balance into
7. the either the Income Statement or theBalance Sheet columns,
(debits remain debits and credits remain credits).2. Calculate
the Net Income or Net Loss by finding the difference between
the revenues and expenses.3. Calculate the Net Income or Net
Loss by finding the difference between the total of the debit
balances andthe total of the credit balances of the accounts in
the Balance Sheet columns of the worksheet.4. Compare the
two Net Incomes. If they are the same the financial statements
will be displayed, otherwisethere is an error in the completion
