Type of Books
Decide upon the types of books you want to sell.
You can focus on a niche, such as crime and mystery, or
go for a broader range of genres. Decide whether you wish to
sell used books, new books or both. Used books typically
generate more profit because you’re paying little to no money
for them. Combining new and used books provides you with
the best opportunities.

Location
A bookstore will likely take up a large amount of space. Ensure that your
customers can comfortably walk into your store and have room to move
around. Renting a building is typically more cost effective than purchasing a
lot and constructing your own building. Don’t just focus on the building itself
consider what surrounds the building. If your stories is in a little known part
of town, you’ll have more difficulty attracting customers than if you rent a
building that’s near a large shopping center.
Decoration
Decorate your store. Couches and chairs are common place in most
bookstores and allow your customers to relax and read books they’re
interested in. Ensure that entire store is properly lit so customers don’t have
difficulty in reading. Additional décor, such as lamps and paintings, can help
set the mood in your store.
Advertisement
Create an advertising plan. Advertisements tell people your store
exists and gives them a reason to checkout your selection of books,
stationeries etc. Consider offering a percentage off each purchase
for customers who mention your ad.

Before you start marketing your book, school supplies and stationeries
you should have a clear understanding of the audience you’re trying to
reach. Knowing your audience will help you create content and
messaging that appeals to your readers specifically, and determine the
channels on which you should spend your marketing budget and time.
