Editor's Notes

  • #2 How many of you have ever looked for a job?
  • #3 In today’s economy with it’s fierce job competition, many Youth ask me if there are any jobs out there.
  • #4 I’d like to encourage you that there are jobs…but you have to have a game plan.
  • #5 There is no ONE guaranteed way to find a job…it takes a variety of strategies to obtain employment. One thing that career counselors all agree on, however, is that in order to be successful in Job Search – you’ve got to be persistent. I’ve found that by taking consistent steps, with each step things start to line up for you.
  • #6 In Job Search it’s important to have a career team supporting you. At Job Connection, we have trained professionals, as well as the tools, resources and equipment necessary to succeed. It’s easy to get hooked up – register online, or stop in Mon-Thurs, 8-4. Services are free, and anyone can use this resource. NOTE: If you are under 18 and you want to use our center, we will send a form home for your parent/guardian to sign.
  • #7 Most jobs these days require you to submit an application, resume and cover letter. Job Connection has resume builders onsite that make it easy to showcase what you offer Employers. Start building a basic resume – which you will use as a template for later.
  • #16 Paid or not
  • #17 Occasionally your One Stop will have funding for a WEX. Based on eligibility.
  • #19 People that you know – make sure everyone knows that you’re looking for a job (church…babysitting…)
  • #23 Most important = clean and appropriately covered. Careful of smells – no perfume/aftershave. No smoke (wear jacket/take off).
