AN APPROACH TO IMPROVEMENT THE USABILITY IN SOFTWARE PRODUCTSijseajournal
One of the significantaspects of software quality is usability. It is one of the characteristics that judge by
the success or failure of software applications. The most important risk facing the software applications is
usability which may lead to the existence of a gap between users and systems. This may lead to system
failure because of Poor design. This is due to the design is not based on the desires and requirements of the
customer. To overcome these problems, this paper proposed an approach to improve usability of software
applications to meet the needs of the customer and interacts with the user easily with an efficient and
effective manner. The proposed approach is based prototyping technique due to itssimplicity and it does not
require additional costs to elicit precise and complete requirement and design.
This document describes a proposed "Low vision Mobile App Portal" that would provide mobile apps specifically designed for visually impaired users. It discusses how most existing mobile apps are designed for sighted users and do not provide an adequate user experience for visually impaired users, even with accessibility features. The document advocates designing apps from the ground up with accessibility and usability for visually impaired users in mind, rather than just adding accessibility features to apps designed for sighted users. It provides some examples of how traditional apps like calendars and contacts would need to be redesigned for visually impaired users.
A UX designer is concerned with the entire process of acquiring and integrating a product, including aspects of branding, design, usability and function. It’s a story that begins before the device is even in the user’s hands.

Designing Rich Mobile Apps in a Fragmented WorldWorklight
User experience and design best practices for the development of high-quality and engaging cross-platform smartphone and tablet applications that meet users' expectations.
This document discusses challenges for user experience (UX) design with rich internet applications (RIAs). It begins by defining UX and RIAs. It then outlines six heuristics for RIA UX design related to discoverability, back and bookmark functionality, change communication, feedback, adding content, and accessibility. The document also discusses how the user-centered design lifecycle applies to RIAs, noting differences such as reduced initial analysis and a focus on first contact design.
This document discusses human factors and ergonomics in software, hardware, and workplace design. It covers types of software interfaces like command-based, menu-based, and icon-based interfaces. It also discusses principles of user interface design, screen layout, and performance support systems. For hardware, it examines monitor, keyboard and mouse design. It analyzes workplace design including office layout models, workstation design, and behavioral concerns like territoriality and socialization. The goal is to apply knowledge of human physical and cognitive abilities to optimize people's interaction with technology and their work environment.
This document discusses the science behind good user experiences (UX) and user interfaces (UI). It defines UX as involving a person's behaviors, attitudes, and emotions about using a product, while defining UI as the space where interactions between humans and machines occur. The document notes that 95% of websites fail at UX despite good UI. It outlines key aspects of UX like user-centered design, design principles, the hierarchy of user needs, and provides tips for creating good UIs and UXs like planning extensively, knowing the user, and making the experience fun and understandable.
The document is a white paper from SpireMedia about the importance of usability in web design. It defines usability as how well a website helps users achieve their goals. Poor usability can damage brands through frustrating user experiences. SpireMedia advocates for user-centered design through techniques like user testing to understand users' needs and ensure websites are usable. Usability is at the core of SpireMedia's design process to create websites that strengthen brands and satisfy user goals.
This document provides an overview of key considerations for UX design of mobile apps. It discusses identifying target customers and the context of mobile use. Designs should be simple, focused on the main task, safe, brief and clear. Patterns and conventions should be followed to reduce learning curves. Touch screens require larger interaction areas and thumb zones. Designs need to support multiple orientations and be efficient. Icons are important for branding and understanding. Usability and emotion in design are emphasized. Iterative testing with users is important.
MDG Panel - Creating Expert Level GUIs for Complex Medical DevicesICS
Graphical User Interfaces are so pervasive and have so many different design intents that it can be hard to see the norms and evolution of norms being applied over the past couple of decades. In medical devices, more than most, tradeoffs between safety, effectiveness and pleasure-to-use, dominate the design efforts.
.
Much focus and debate has been applied to paradigms of “simple yet effective” in GUI design. The most commonly cited ideals in the Apple eco-system and skeuomorphic design concern themselves with the novice user and technology adoption. But not all products are designed for the novice user.
.
For UIs that expose advanced or unstructured feature sets to the user, the normative approach has been to compromise on the simplicity to extend the functionality. But such an approach can be incremental and muddled where a better approach might be cogent redesign.
.
We will explore the evolution of a life-saving lung transplant medical device from Tevosol that implements an expert-level GUI for clinical users. Focus will be on lessons learned and the design principles ultimately chosen.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
