2. ● I was brought up with the idea that we should try and minimize the waste we create
and how important it is that we take care of the environment we live in because
without it there would be the resources we have to keep us alive as well as the
need to show compassion not only for people but for the other living things that
make up our world.
● Knowing what I know about our environment and the issues going on it caused me
to look further into it and think deeper about what we could be doing. It amazed me
how some of problems happening with the environment are spoken or advocated
little for and I think it’s important to educate others on what is destroying the
environment. So we can step up and change it.
● The environment is the foundation block for every living being regardless of what
they do or where they are it.
● The future of us, the environment, and biodiversity depends on us, and if we don’t do
something to solve the issues now there will not be a future for us and the other
creatures.
Why does it resonate for me?
3. ● Picking up litter on beaches, around neighborhoods, and parks. This helps to save animals from eating
or suffocating them, as well as helping plants in the area grow.
● Recycle items when they can be recycled. Recycling keeps trash out of landfills and trash barges which
stops land from being covered in waste and trash from getting into the ocean.
● Don’t use pesticides and then run water where they are used. This stops runoff waste and helps
prevent pesticides from getting on other plants that it can be harmful to as well as helps to prevent
animals from eating and drinking the pesticide and becoming ill.
● Switch to renewable energy if possible. This helps to stop mining and other environmentally dangerous
that are needed to produce energy. When you use renewable energy there isn’t a need for energy
companies to mine for coal and other materials they need for energy production which helps save the
environment.
How can my interest be applied locally?
4. ● I use animal cruelty free make up.
● I use reusable bags instead of plastic.
● I buy second hand stuff as well giving an item a second life which cuts down the carbon footprint.
● I try to buy items that have less packaging on them to avoid waste and plastic use.
● I use biodegradable silverware instead of disposable silverware.
● I switch out my light bulbs which lessens energy consumption.
● I eat less meat which reduces the carbon dioxide.
● I also compost leftover food and use it to help my plants.
Where can I personally make the greatest
contribution?
5. Social media can be used to educate a large portion of the population about this
problem
Social media allows millions of people to connect together, create plans, and
educate masses of people about a topic.
Using social media would allow people to band together and create groups to help
with things like: picking up litter on beaches, helping educate people about pollution
and the environment, as well as getting like minded people on the topic together for
the ability to talk to government officials about laws and changes to save our planet.
Is there a feature of social media that can be uniquely
applied to this goal?
