This document is the syllabus for an English 317 Technical Writing course. The course aims to teach students how to communicate complex information to various audiences through technical writing. Students will learn to translate discipline-specific discourse, articulate technological affordances and constraints, apply rhetorical designs, and communicate solutions through a variety of print and digital genres. The syllabus outlines 5 projects students will complete over the course, including creating podcasts, slidecasts, infographics, usability tests, and an e-portfolio. Students will analyze readability, define technical terms, visualize data, test communication products, and develop their professional online presence. The final grade will be based on these projects and an introductory bio assignment.
