This document outlines the policies for an English course, including: - Students should work incrementally on projects and contact the instructor if help is needed. - Students must meet the university's language proficiency standards. - Students will need a computer, microphone, and backup storage to complete coursework involving written and multimedia projects. - Deadlines, file formats, and policies for late or missed work are clearly defined.

1.1 Course Pace. Because you will need time to process the course
concepts before applying them, it is important to work
incrementally, so you will have time to ask me questions and get
help if needed. Each project schedule includes the steps you will
need to do to complete project deliverables with the estimated
time you will need for each step.
1.2 Contacting Me. You are encouraged to contact me whenever you
need help. I answer emails promptly (even on the weekends).
1.3 English Language Proficiency. You must meet the standards of
language proficiency as defined by the University of Idaho
academic requirements to take English 317.
1.4 Technology Requirements.
• Computer. You will need a computer with reliable Internet
connectivity.
• Microphone. You will need a microphone. Most computers have
an integrated microphone that will work fine for this course. If
you need to purchase one, however, here are two inexpensive
microphones that bblearn recommends: Logitech 1 ($14.99)
and Logitech 2 ($19.99)
• Reliable Backup. You will need a reliable backup to store the
latest drafts of your work other than the hard drive of your
computer or an easily lost thumb drive. Here is a one
recommend: Drop Box.
1.5 Multimedia Project Deliverables. Four of the projects require both written
and multimedia communication deliverables (an audio-only podcast,
slidecast, and two screencasts). Students are not expected to have prior
experience in producing multimedia products and will be invited to
create these using free, cloud- computing tools that will also host the file.
Should you chose to create your file another way, your file must be hosted
in the cloud and play as a video.
1.6 Test Recording. You are responsible for completing a test recording in
projects where a multimedia project deliverable is required. Should a test
recording fail, you are expected to follow the troubleshooting steps under
Tools and Resources on each of the four project pages.
WARNING: Failure to do a test recording early enough to resolve technical
issues will not be accepted as a reason for not submitting a multimedia
project deliverable.

1.7 Accepted File Formats. The following are the only accepted file formats.
• Written Deliverables: Word or PDF.
• Infographic Deliverable: jpg, png, PDF, or the URL where the file is hosted.
• Multimedia Deliverables: URL where the file is hosted.
WARNING: digital media files (MP3, MP4, etc.) are not accepted in this
course because you are practicing how such files are shared in the
workplace.
1.8 Deadlines. The deadline for submitting your work to the bblearn drop box
is set at Sunday, End of Day (11:59 PM) during the week in which a project
is due. You may, of course, submit work earlier than this deadline. I will
accept work after this deadline has passed as follows:
• Late Work. You may submit late work to the project drop box up to 24
hours after the Sunday deadline. To avoid a point penalty, please explain
the nature of the problem or emergency that caused you to miss the
deadline in the comment box in bblearn.
WARNING: The late work policy is intended to be used for a short-term
emergency such as an internet outage and should never be treated as
additional time to complete project deliverables.
• Missed Work. If you fail to meet the original and late work deadlines, your
work is considered missed. You may submit work to the Missed Work drop
box subject to the following policies.
1. Missed work is not eligible for a grade higher than C/75%, and I will not
be able to provide feedback on your work. Only a grade will be
assigned.
2. The missed work drop box may be used for one project only, and it
may not be used for project 5.
3. The deadline to submit missed work is Friday 4/14 before 11:59 PM.
1.9 Confirming that Work Submitted Correctly. You are responsible for
confirming work submitted properly in the bblearn project drop box, and
this includes confirming that files will open and that any URL addresses
work.
1.10 University Disability Support Services. Reasonable accommodations will

1.11 Plagiarism. Violation the University of Idaho Student Code of Conduct will
result in a course grade of ‘F'.
