This project report examines internet usage among students at VIT University in Vellore, India. A survey found that students mainly use the internet for social networking, online shopping, and video conferencing. They spend 2-4 hours online per day on average. While students said internet has benefits, they were dissatisfied with the 3GB data limit allotted to them. The report concludes that internet is an important tool for students but should be used in moderation to avoid overuse and negative health impacts.

media network is only an electronic links amongst its users which turned out to be a habit for students,

than good. The aim of the paper is to analyze the vices of social media on the academic success of students
of Adamawa State Polytechnic, Yola. The survey method of research was adopted to achieve the objectives
of the study. Some research questions were presented to the respondents where the results revealed that so
many (96 percent of them) usually spent much time on the social networking sites than to their academics.
As such, the academic success of the students suffers setbacks which lead to poor performance in the

The study revealed that prospective mathematics teachers in the U.S. have massive engagement in accessing the Internet and Web 2.0-based activities through cellular and handheld mobile devices as well as in their self-reported skills in using Internet, without any significant differences based on their gender. Prospective mathematics teachers experienced numerous advantages and a few minor problems of the blogging activity as a supportive tool in the Euclidean Geometry course. They found blogs a supportive and useful tool for collaborative teaching and learning purposes. A questionnaire was administered to 400 students across 3 universities to collect data on social networking usage and academic performance. Statistical analysis found significant relationships between academic achievement and time spent online, as well as differences related to gender and university attended.

In this journal, the author claims that in recent years, online social networks have realised exponential growth. Many people have access to these online networks which they are using for both privately and publicly. Online social networks such as Facebook may be used for communication purposes when want to deliver information. In this study, two individuals were examined. One individual was exposed to a community which used social networks frequently, while the other did not have any exposure to social networks. During their time in these communities, their behaviour was closely observed. It was noted that the individual exposed to social networks had ways in managing privacy while the other was not interested in such issues. This article is credible in examination of information exposed to social media and how people communicate information due to new technology. There is also evidence that improvement of technology has increased the access of information especially in social media.

Investigating Tertiary Students’ Perceptions on Internet Security
Internet security threats have grown from just simple viruses to various forms of computer hacking, scams, impersonation, cyber bullying, and spyware. The Internet has great influence on most people. It has profound influence and one can spend endless hours on internet activities. In particular, youth engage in more online activities than any other age group. Excessive internet usage is an emerging threat that has negative impacts on these youth; hence it is vital to investigate youths' online behavior. This work studies tertiary students’ risk awareness, and provides some findings that allow us to understand their knowledge on risks and their behavior towards online activities. It reveals several important online issues amongst tertiary students; Firstly, the lack of online security awareness; second, a lack of awareness and information about the dangers of rootkits, internet cookies and spyware; thirdly, female students are more unflinching than male students when commenting on social networking sites; fourthly, students are cautious only when obvious security warnings are present; and finally, their usage of internet hotspots is common without fully understanding its associated danger. These findings enable us to recommend types of internet security habits and safety practices that students should adopt in future when they are exposed to online activities. A more holistic approach was considered which aims to minimize any future risks and dangers with online activities involving students.

Internet use has both sociological and psychological effects on its users. Communication is one of the areas that have experienced much change due to the internet.
History of internet
The internet’s origins can be traced back to extensive research that was commissioned by the government of the United States, mainly in the 1960s to build a fault-tolerant and robust communication through computer networks. However, there are other authoritative sources, which state that the internet history began with the electronic computer development, which took place in the 1950s. These sources state that the initial packet-networking concept originated in numerous computer science laboratories mainly in France, Great Britain, and in the United States.
In addition, in the 1960s, the US Department of Defense awarded various contracts for the development of packet network systems, which included the ARPANET development, which was the first network to utilize the IP (Internet Protocol). These developments have gradually advanced to what is currently referred to as the internet. The science that is associated with the internet involves the linking of billions of interconnected devices, which are able to communicate with each other, as well as sharing information.
During the year 1966, Roberts attended the DARPA in order to develop the computer concepts on a network in a quicker way. This was later published in 1967 where there was a conference where he actually represented the paper which has the concept of computer networks. He then merged his ideas with the RAND group who were presenting their ideas on packet switching for networks in order to secure voice in the military. These ideas were interlinked with each other and they helped to develop the concept on the internet. The ARPANET concept of the internet was then developed from these two ideas. The ARPNET was finally upgraded to 50kbps from the initial 2.4kbps.

- 1. SUMMARY:- This project report presents the background of the project(INTERNET AND VITIANS).A structured questionnaire was prepared for data collection. It was found that majority spend their time on internet mainly usong social networking sites,online shopping,video conferencing etc The findings showed that internet has emerged as the leading information pool for students. Respondents were dissatisfied with amount of data usage allotted to them (3GB) This wasthe primary study conducted by our group and it results as surprising as they were informative. INTRODUCTION:- Internet is one of the most powerful and important inventions in the late 20th century,it can be very useful and productive tool , whereas on the other hand it can be a source of distraction to millions and lead to wastage of their precious time. Internet and vitians have a close relationship.it is also designed to provide entertainment,networking and is a fast-track way to help scholars with their research . college students as a community have a greater access to high speed internet connections than anyother peer group. Therefore the use and misuse of internet is a crucial issue in the academic life of student. PURPOSE:- The main purpose of our study was to investigate the myriad purposes for which studentsof vit university,vellore used internet specifically focused on what the use it for ,how frequently they use it ,how satisfied they were with the internet services provided by vit and the merits and demerits it had ANALYSIS OF THE DATA:- 1)HOURS SPENT ON THE INTERNET USAGE:- Our study showed that majority of students (61%)spend about 2-4 hours online,only 4% used it for more than 8 hours
- 2. 2) VARIETY OF TASKS INTERNET IS USED FOR :- Our study showed that social networking(57%)is most popular closely followed by online shopping eg:jabong, myntra,flipkart(25%),videoconferencing eg skype(17.5%) Online banking(16%) 3) MEDIUM OF STUDY :- 54.5%students preferred hard copies over e books or slides as far as the study material provided by the faculty as concerned. 4)ALLOTMENT OF DATA”- A majority population thought that 3GB data restriction was unfair however 34% were not sure about it .A surprising 26% disagreed on this issue 5)MISUSE OF INTERNET:- 43% said that internet was not misused more that it was used .while 34.4% could not decide. 6)INTERNET AND MODERN SOCIETY:- Majority of people 78.2% partially agreed to the statement that inernnet has brought distant people close and close people distant CONCLUSION:- A majority of respomdents agreed that they make only limited use of internet but as far as medium of study was concerned they prefer the old ideas of school textbooks. Cyber bullying,fake accounts,fraudulent websites was cited as the most irritating factor regarding internet. While students agreed to be using ineternet in a large for their projects .Faculty members argued that they must learn to verify the information . The physical hazards of wifi and condtantinternet were also researched by our group.wrong postures,headaches and intenet addiction are ine of the main ailments VITians are afflicted with. Hence indispensable part of students life
