The document discusses the green movement and issues facing the sustainability of the Earth's principal biological systems. It notes that while the green movement started over 25 years ago and created important environmental consciousness, human demands are now exceeding sustainable levels and damaging fisheries, forests, grasslands, and croplands. As a result, the current environmental scenario is highly deplorable with many species facing extinction. The document argues that population control is the only solution to protect the planet and ensure survival.

This PPT will take you into the forest and tell you about the variety of ways the forests were used by communities living within them. It will show how in the nineteenth century the growth of Industries and urban centers created a new demand on the forests for timber and other forest products. New demands led to new rules of forests use, new ways of organizing the forests. All these developments affected the lives of those local communities who used forest resources. They were forced t operate within new systems and reorganise their lives. But they also rebelled against the rules and persuaded the state to change its policies. Will give you and idea of the history of such developments in India and Indonesia.
The Living Planet Report, WWF’s flagship publication released every two years, is a comprehensive study of trends in global biodiversity and the health of the planet. The Living Planet Report 2018 is the twelfth edition of the report and provides the scientific evidence to what nature has been telling us repeatedly: unsustainable human activity is pushing the planet’s natural systems that support life on Earth to the edge.
Through multiple indicators including the Living Planet Index (LPI), provided by the Zoological Society of London (ZSL), the report shows us the urgent need for a new global deal for nature and people with clear, ambitious goals, targets and metrics, to reverse the devastating trend of biodiversity loss currently impacting the one planet we all call home.
To learn more about the Living Planet Index, how it's calculated, and what it tells us, read the technical supplement here.

THERE IS NO REASON TO CELEBRATE TODAY THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF MOTHER EARTH.pdfFaga1939
This article shows that humanity is losing the battle against the forces of evil that promote the devastation of the environment of planet Earth with the exhaustion of its natural resources, the pollution of the air, seas, rivers and lakes, the emergence of new pandemics and global warming resulting from the emission of greenhouse gases to the highest layers of the Earth's atmosphere that tends to produce catastrophic climate change on our planet. It is because of all this that there is no reason to celebrate International Earth Day.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

3. Initiation of the Green movement
Changes introduced by Green Movement
Consciousness created by various agencies
Principal biological system of the earth
Human claims on these systems reaching unsustainable level
Constitutional & legal action – a farce
Present scenario highly deplorable
Population control – the only solution
Transcending concern towards saving the planet
4. Initiation of the Green Movement
Started nearly 25 years ago
World’s first nationwide Green party founded in New
Zealand in 1972
The movement has not looked back ever since
Home
5. Changes introduced by Green
Movement the mechanistic view to a holistic and
Paradigm shift from
ecological view of the world.
Revolutionary shift in human perceptions as radical as
Copernicus concept that the earth and the other planets
revolved round the sun.
Initiated for the first time in humans history, a growing
worldwide consciousness that the earth itself is a living
organism.
Popularized the vital need to respect and preserve the
metabolic needs and processes of the earth.
Created a realization towards our ethical obligations to be
good caretakers of the planet and become responsible
trustees of the legacy to future generation Home
6. Consciousness created by various
agenciesa cage in a zoo at Lusaka, Zambia warns about
A notice on
‘the world’s most dangerous animal’ : Man
Such consciousness has created a new awareness
Need to shift from a system based on domination to one
based on partnership
Man shares the planet with about 1.4 million living species
which have been catalogued
Biologists estimate another three to a hundred million
living species still unlisted and recorded
First Brandt Report raised the question : “Are we going to
leave our successors a scorched planet of advancing
deserts, impoverished landscapes and ailing environment

7. Principal biological systems of
the earth systems referred by Mr. Lester R. Brown in
Four biological
his book “The Golden Economic Prospect’ namely :
fisheries, forests, grasslands and cropland
They form the foundation of the global economic system
Apart from supplying food, the four systems provide
virtually all the raw materials for industry except minerals
and petroleum- derived synthetics
Home
8. Human claims on these systems
reaching unsustainable level.
Productivity is being impaired
Fisheries collapsing and forests disappearing
Grasslands converted into barren wastelands
Croplands deteriorating
Over-fishing common in protein-conscious and protein-
hungry world
Forests being decimated in poor countries for firewood
Several species of life face extinction as a result of
destruction of tropical forests
World’s ancient patrimony of tropical forests eroding at the
rate of forty to fifty million acres a year.
9. Growing use of dung for burning depriving farmlands of an
important natural fertilizer
A five-fold increase in the rate of forest planting needed to
cope with expected fuel wood demand in the year 2000.
James Speth, the President of World Resources Institute
declared that we are losing the forests at an acre-and-a-half
to a second’.

10. Constitutional & legal
action -a farce
Laws never respected nor enforced India
Article 48A of the constitution provides for the state to
protect and improve and converse forests and wildlife, but
the truth is quite contrary

11. Present scenario highly deplorable
Report of Parliament’s Estimates Committee highlights
near catastrophic depletion of India's forest at the rate of
3.7 million acres a year
Unofficial reports indicate 8 times the rate indicated by
government statistics

and aerial photography warned of the ‘critical condition’ of
the world environment
Growth of world population jeopardizing the future of
human society. Took one million years to add the first

solution the best contraceptive
Development
Fertility falls as incomes rise
Education spreads and health improves
No development possible due to population explosion
Rich get richer, poor beget children condemned to remain
poor
Compulsory sterilization not suggested but voluntary
family planning should be promoted
Choice to be made between control of population and
perpetuation of poverty
Population control to be given top priority in India

savingjust not of the people but of the planet
Survival

Awareness about environmental issues does not signal our
demise but our earnest efforts towards a better future.
Emerging new world vision has ushered in an Era of
Responsibility seeing the world as an integrated whole
rather than disassociated collection of parts
Industry has crucial role to play in this new ‘Era of
Responsibility’
A complete transformation would be effected if more
businessmen took up the role of ‘Chief Environment Officer’
like Mr. Edgar S.Woolard, chairman of Du Pont
