Steller's sea cow (Hydrodamalis gigas) was a large sirenian mammal that was once abundant throughout the North Pacific but was limited to the Commander Islands by 1741. Within 27 years of being discovered by Europeans, the slow moving sea cow was hunted to extinction for food and oil. It grew up to 8 meters long, looked like a large seal but with forelimbs and a whale-like tail. It lived in the water and fed on kelp. The sole remaining population was hunted to extinction by 1768 for its meat and fat.

This is a presentation about Sea Turtles. It describes each type of turtle and explains why they are an endangered species. It also includes recent pictures taken of a Sea Turtle release at Vanderbilt Beach in Naples, Florida. The health of thousands of turtles was compromised by the record cold gulf temperatures in Florida in January 2010, causing the Sea Turtles to stop moving and swimming. The Florida State Wildlife Conservation Commission and other many other groups of professionals and volunteers teamed together to warm the turtles, return them to health, then release them back into the wild. This presentation describes ways to help Sea Turtles increase their numbers and provides resources for further study.

GDG Cloud Southlake #33: Boule & Rebala: Effective AppSec in SDLC using Deplo...James Anderson
Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
3. Description The sea cow grew at least 8 metres long, much larger than the manatee or dugong. Steller's work contains two contradictory weights: 4 and 24.3 tons. The true value probably lies between these figures, around 8-10 tons. It looked somewhat like a large seal, but had two stout forelimbs and a whale-like tail. According to Steller, "The animal never comes out on shore, but always lives in the water. Its skin is black and thick, like the bark of an old oak, its head in proportion to the body is small…, it has no teeth, but only two flat white bones- one above, the other below". It was completely tame, according to Steller. They fed on a variety of kelp. Wherever sea cows had been feeding, heaps of stalks and roots of kelp were washed ashore. The sea cow was also a slow swimmer and apparently was unable to submerge.
4. Habitat The steller's sea cow, lived in the Indian Ocean and part of the Pacific, from Taiwan to New Guinea. Many years ago, about 12.000, this huge animal lived around all the seas and oceans, from Japan to California, but at the final of a period, the animal only lived at major's Islands, near the north pacific.
5. Causes of extinction The steller's sea cow became extincted because the sailors that were at the Commander Islands hunted them to eat, and to have them fat to make oil lamps. In 27 years, the steller's sea cow became extincted.
