This essay compares the horror films Paranormal Activity and Insidious. Both films involve paranormal activity in a family's house centered around threats to the parents' children. Specifically, the films feature demons haunting the families - in Paranormal Activity it is a demon summoned to protect the family that ends up terrorizing them, while in Insidious it is a demon that kidnaps the son's soul. Though the endings differ, with only Insidious having a happy conclusion, the essays argues the films have notable similarities in their premises, supernatural elements, and threats to children that make them effectively comparable within the horror genre.

1. English Essay (Ricco Soh)
The genre that I’m going to select is horror film. I am going to do a comparison of
similarities between the two-horror films that I have selected which is Paranormal
Activity created by Oren Peli and Insidious created by James Wan.
Paranormal activity has over has five movie produce so far. The film is about a
family haunted by a demonic entity, which stalks, terrifies and ultimately murders
several members of the family, and other bystanders, during the course of the films.
The series makes use of camcorders, security cameras (CCTV) and other recording
devices, presenting the films as found footage and is widely regarded as
popularizing the genre horror film.
After that, for the film Insidious has two-movie produce so far. The film is about
a gripping story of a family in search of help for their son, Dalton, who fell into a
coma after a mysterious incident in the attic. Little do they know that there is much
more to this endless sleep than meets the eye as they explore the paranormal, and
rediscover the past; the key to getting their son back once and for all.
In both this film, they have a few similarities happening in the movie such as
paranormal activity happening around, the entire super natural takes place inside a
house; the ghost haunting them is a demon also. The only slight thing which is not
similar is the ending of the movie, for the Paranormal Activity it’s ending is not a
happy ending while for Insidious, it’s ending is a happy ending.
The similarity in both films is that both films are base all in a house. Both
storyline is also has something to do with the parents child, for Insidious the family
son was in a “coma” as the doctor says but actually the son was actually taken by a
demon ghost preventing his son to wake up from his sleep because his soul wasn’t
in his body. For Paranormal Activity, the family was curse by their grandmother.
Their grandmother made a deal with demon to protect the entire family from any
evil spirits. In order to repay the demon, the grandmother said she would offer the
demon the family’s first-born boy child. In away sacrificing it to the demon.
The second similarity thing between both this films is that the super natural
that are haunting them are demons, for Insidious the demon haunting the family is
The lipstick-face demon AKA the fire-face demon, also known as the red-faced
demon or “the man with fire on his face. The demon captured the sons while he was
sleeping and took his soul. For Paranormal Activity, the demon haunting the family
name is called Toby or describe as a blackened figure with long hair.
Lastly, the demons plot, for the insidious, the demons want to capture the child’s
soul. For Paranormal Activity the demon was summon to protect the family and the
family will repay the demon with their first born boy child but the family doesn’t
want to sacrifice their child.

2. In conclusion, we can clearly see that both films have some similarity going on.
For example the where did it occur, what type of ghost or super natural occurrences
and the main plot is same as in both films facing the same problems with family and
their children. We can clearly see the both films is almost the same having almost
the same type of suspensions going on in between both films. Insidious and
paranormal are equally both very scary. Story not really the same but the plot are
and the causing of it is also the same. I clearly enjoyed both horror films.
