ENGL 309 FA19 F2F Project 4 Schedule

  • 1. PROJECT 4 SCHEDULE [Imitative Essay] All work is due before class on the date due. Late assignments will lose one letter grade (or the equivalent number of points) per day. Unless otherwise indicated, all links are on the BbLearn Project 4 page. Date In Class Work Due T 10/08 Workshop, completed white paper. Complete a full, designed draft of your white paper and bring to class.*** Th 10/10 Introduce Assignment 4, Imitative Essay. Introductory imitation exercise. T 10/15 Finding motives of style in essays; the situation and the story. Read: -Excerpts from Vivian Gornick, “The Situation and the Story” -“The Trick: Notes Toward a Theory of Plot” (from BAM 2018) Th 10/17 No class (Jodie away) – see homework!! Jodie will assign essays from Best American Essays to each student (individual essay assignments under In- Class Work). Write a paragraph summarizing the situation and the story of the essay and be prepared to read it out loud to the class.
  • 2. T 10/22 Deviation, physical/social footing. Presentations of essays. Introduce Style Map assignment. -Performing Prose, Ch 3-4 BRING BAE with you to class. Th 10/24 Tropes and schemes. Read: -Performing Prose, Chs 6-7 -“Lucky You” (pg 249, BAE) BRING BAE with you to class. T 10/29 Tropes and schemes quiz (50 points!). Work on style maps. Read Performing Prose Chs. 8-10. Study for quiz! BRING BAE with you to class. Th 10/31 !candy! Using your style map to structure your essay. Style maps due: email Google Docs link to Jodie, who will post on BbLearn. T 11/05 Draft workshop, Imitative Essay. Polishing the imitative essay. Sentence-level imitation exercise. Writing the memo. Complete draft of imitative essay due.*** Th 11/07 No class (Jodie out of town). Finish your imitative essay and memo. Sunday, 11/10 by 11:59 p.m. Imitative Essay and memo due.
  • 3. **Draft workshops are mandatory. If you miss the workshop, or come without a complete draft, you will lose 25 points.
