Editor's Notes
While CV has become mainstream and is at the tip of driving more value, the eco-system involved continues to be more and more complex, with sometimes lack of clarity on who is leading and who is following and new players entering every day. In essence, it’s a mad rush. The picture is in fact more complex than what we have represented in the slide.
One can look at the eco-system complexity at 3 levels:
Value Chain Players – players that directly contribute to one oe more parts of the value-chain. You can look at the follwing main kinds of players: …..
All of them are trying to take a bigger share of the value-chain and trying to get closer to the end user
E.g.: Verizon is now not just a connectivity provider, but also a TSP and getting into content and connected services
Tier-1 (Delphi) – not just a in-vehicle hardware provider, but creating an end to end solution that includes connected services
TSP – rather than just being a provider of service delivery infrastructure, now wants to provision content and more sophisticated connected services
OEMs – large and small act differently.
The CV industry also needs to work with other industry for essentially 2 purposes: To realize use cases that span industries…as well as learn best practices from other industries. I have not provided all possible industry collaborations here. But for e.g.
- Insurance has become relevant from UBI perspective
Utilities have become relevant in the context of electric vehicle related CV use cases
Telecom is a source of both: Best practices in terms of subscription/service delivery provisioning; also need to collaborate to bundle wireless offerings and create compelling plans
Also need to learn from others. Some examples: Consumer Electronics – shorter product cycles; Retail - managing customer experience and consumer interactions; Aerospace - vehicle health management and leveraging vehicle data for preventive maintenance and prognostics
And then lastly the field requires many new skills and disciplines – both technical and non-technical
Cloud for service delivery and anywhere – accessibility
Big data for leveraging all the new information to generate new value
Security has become very important – privacy issues; as well as cyber-security related issues
HMI – driver distraction and quality of HMI will become a major differentiating point
ADAS – a whole new field that now needs to be integrated
Other fields as well – customer service; managing shorter product lifecycle
In the end, OEMs will still control….and for the forseeable future the eco-system will continue to be complex. So we see that there is a need for someone who can assist in bringing all these parts together and act as an “eco-system integrator”. There are many areas where the role of an eco-system integrator becomes critical: E.g. E2E Connected Vehicle Architecture; End of End Program Management (includes Supplier Coordination, etc.); End to end Validation
