This document provides guidance on engaging customers through effective messaging and content creation. It discusses three key steps: having a simple message conveyed in 10 words or less, creating shareable visual content like photos and videos, and targeting the messaging at early adopters who will spread the word. Six Business Lessons From 10 Years Of Fantasy FootballRoss Simmonds
What many people don’t know is that my obsession with social media and technology all started with Football. It was my first year of University and because things like Facebook didn’t exist, I procrastinated by writing a daily Fantasy Football blog for SportingNews.com. In fact, my blog brought quite a bit of success and generated a loyal following. After about a year of blogging about Football and helping people all over the world win their first championship, I decided to start a business from it.
I integrated my blog with an eCommerce platform selling Football Memorabilia and had enough to cover tuition for two more years. To be blunt, I’ve been a Fantasy Football junkie ever since and have learned a lot along the way. Many of the lessons I learned through this journey I’ve applied to my marketing and entrepreneurship career.
Here are some of the most important insights and tips I’ve learned over the last few years from playing Fantasy Football. Use these insights wisely and take your business to the next level while start getting closer to achieving success.

35 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Quit My Job (3yrs later)Ross Simmonds
It’s been nearly 3 crazy years since I put in my two weeks notice and left the 9 to 5 once and for all. It was a crazy time in my life as I had just bought a home, but was completely tired and drained of working for someone else. I knew I had to escape the 9 to 5 and I was determined a few months earlier to put the steps in place that would allow me to make it a reality.
Over the last 3 years, I’ve built a consulting business that last year did more than $250k in revenue. I share the figure because I want people to know that I’m by no means on the level of Mark Zuckerberg or any of the folks on Shark Tank but that I’ve reached a point financially that I’ve been able to live life on my terms. I’ve been able to make investments into projects I’m passionate about like HustleAndGrind.co and GetCrate.co.
Looking back over the couple years, it’s been filled with highs and lows.
I wouldn’t change it for the world and I’m thankful that I’ve been able to grow and have great people around me. If it wasn’t for my clients, partners, family and friends — I would likely have burned out many months ago and not be writing this post. So thank you…
For anyone who is stuck in the 9 to 5 and is looking to escape, I just published a guide called The Hustle Manifesto that goes a bit deeper into some of the ideas I’m going to share in this post.
It’s not just a guide, it’s a resource pack filled with stories, email scripts, challenges, webinars, and clear insights that I’ve gathered over the last few years. Check it out while it’s available at a limited time price.

I happen to love podcasts and it seems like the I’m not alone, 20% of Americans are now listening to podcasts at least once a month, that’s a lot of hours directly attached to your target audience’s brain. According to the Washington Post, there were over 1 billion podcast downloads this past year and monthly podcast listeners have reached 75 million per month. Podcasts allow individual and traditional broadcasters alike to reach younger, and more varied audiences. “People under the age of 30 don’t own radios,” noted WNYC’s CEO and president Laura Walker.
What’s great about podcasts is there are no rules, you can target a niche as specific as you like, the listening habits are so varied and what you determine as ROI is all up to you. If done correctly it’s a forum to consistently share your expertise, build your credibility in a very intimate medium. When you have a direct relationship with your listener you can do really interesting things to build your brand. There’s nothing more intimate than being allowed to whisper in someones ear on a regular basis

25 Social Media Ideas You Can Use to Connect With Your Audience slideshareBoom! Social
One of the things that I get asked the most frequently is what should businesses share on social media, which sparked these 25 social media ideas you can use to connect with your audience.
It's natural for a brand to grow. But brand growth isn't an entitlement. Nor is it the result of launching new products and new marketing campaigns. Brand growth is the by-product of syncing the purpose, the vision, and the passion of the business with the actions of its employees.
In this presentation, John Moore shares lessons hes learned first-hand from helping grow the Whole Foods and Starbucks brands as well as growing the teams responsible for making growth happen within those businesses. You'll learn how complacency, conservatism, and conceit will derail the growth of any brand and the growth of any team. And, youll leave with advice on how to instill a sense of purpose within project teams to thrive during times of change.
NOTE: This presentation was delivered at the In-HOWse Designer Conference held in Chicago on Monday, October 30.

The Minimum Viable Product (or MVP) is the first shippable version of a product containing purely core features, distributed as a test release in order to create useful feedback for the most basic features. Planning for a MVP release requires the Product Owner to know how to organize and prioritize a dense backlog of features, but in an agile environment with a diverse team and uniquely talented vendors we posit they need not do it alone.
Different lenses for knowing what MVP means to your internal and external team so you can know if you are building the right thing.
What must the MVP consist of to be meaningful to the target user? What’s the best way to phase out the release of everything else? What can be cut completely? Basic agile/lean design project management techniques. Important conflict resolution and emotional management techniques. How to sell it with a "Flexible Scope Retainer".

A Planner's Playbook - Everything I learned about planning at Miami Ad School...Sytse Kooistra
After being in advertising for 4 years, I needed some new guidance and inspiration as a strategist. And that is exactly what I found: I spent the summer of 2013 with 17 other (soon to be) planners from all over the world attending the Account Planning Bootcamp at Miami Ad School New York.
Thanks to the 38 industry heroes and instructors that shared their knowledge and coached us in those 3 months, I learned more than I ever could imagine about planning.
'A Planner's Playbook' is my attempt to summarize all that wisdom in 30 short nuggets (or plays, to stick with the metaphor of a playbook) and share it with you. I left out all the difficult frameworks and models and kept in simple by just stating, in my opinion (and in that of my instructors), what a planner should be and do.
Enjoy reading.

Lean hardware startups: elements of a ubiquitous computing innovation ecosystemMike Kuniavsky
(Look at slide notes for full transcript)
How can digital hardware startups be more like Github and less like General Motors?
The pieces that fell together to create the ecosystem of tools and business models that lead to the creation of Eric Ries' Lean Startup model for online products are now falling into place in the hardware sector. We're about to see an explosion of hardware startups based on the same ideas. Technological, social and financial changes are coming together to allow entrepreneurs to rapidly iterate new digital devices focused on customer needs. These core elements create a new way to conceptualize the development of digital hardware products. This talk will examine the components that are creating this change and suggest some directions we can expect things to go, and how we can take advantage of it.

Brand space has never been more accessible.
Consumers’ time has never been more scarce.
What does this mean for the way we work?
The elements we use to create attention have shrunk exponentially. The spaces we use have become cheaper and, at the same time, more precious.
The term "Minimal Viable Product" has become so widely used that is seems to have lost its meaning. There is growing confusion whether the MVP is a "pre-launch" version of an online or mobile produce, or an "alpha" or "beta".
Creating the MVP is an excellent way of establishing whether a business idea is likely to fly in the real world. But, all too often I see people getting tanged up in the technicalities of what the MVP should include. And, when that happens, the purpose that the MVP should serve becomes forgotten or lost.
This presentation shows you how a logical process of creating two MVPs in quick succession will help anyone that is creating a web or mobile product to spend less time and money on creating a sustainable business by minimising the risk of "getting it wrong".
The advice applies to anyone, no matter how big or small the budget. And I can wholeheartedly testify that people who have applied this precise process have:
1. Saved hundreds of hours of efforts which would have taken them in the wrong direction,
2. Helped businesses that had built a product but found uptake lacklustre to reposition their offering to attract a much higher rate of customer acquisition and retention.
Enjoy :)

The challenge to video marketers nowadays is that video may have been the victim of its own success.
The problem now is that there’s so much video out there that most of them simply don’t have an impact. They don’t get people to convert to buyers.

things all going on at once – you need to fight to keep your
audience paying attention. Now you’ve identified who they
are, this presentation is to help you to talk to and engage
with your potential customers.
Come on, let’s get started.
2. Yesterday
& today
You can’t target everyone
It’s all about how it makes them feel

factors that make your idea spread.

3. Three steps of engaging your customers
If you want a message and idea that resonates with the right people, you need these
three things to create an idea that spreads - one that is shareable.
Shareable
content
You need a simple message in
order to have the best chance of
capturing someone’s attention
We live in a visual age of social
media, and in order to impress,
you’ll need good visuals.
Show The
right people
A clear message & shareable content
is a start, but for it to really take off,
you’ll need to target the right people.
Simple
Message
4. Step 1: Simple message
If you can’t say it in
10 words, don’t say it.
5. Map what you’re offering on a piece of paper
Keeping your messages simple is about being completely clear on what you’re offering and why people will use you.
A good way to picture this is by drawing the message map shown below – yes, actually draw it out!

6. Creating your mini pitch
A Mini-Pitch is a short presentation of your business idea
which you can say to potential customers, potential contacts
or even just to your Nan. Make sure you include these:
Who you are & What you do
E.g. Corkscrew provide training courses in business start-up
1
Why people will choose you
E.g. Improved confidence & initiative, great professional experience
2
A ‘call to action’
A ‘Call To Action’ is somewhere the listener can go to if they’re
interested in what you’re saying. It could be your website, a video
or social media page, or perhaps it’s something offline like an event
or a signup sheet.

7. More information on the message map
Creating a message map is the best way of getting your message right. Once you’ve
got your message right, the next best thing to do is to practice saying it!

more likely to create content which is shareable. Make sure your pictures and videos have the ‘wow’ factor.

18. This is bob.
He’s a software engineer in London and enjoys lazy weekends and
walks in the park. Bob also loves gadgets. One time he actually waited
in a queue for hours just to get his hands on the new iPhone 5S.
Bob is fanatical about gadgets
Bob loves his gadgets. He loves unwrapping the latest
phone & downloading the newest apps to try them out.

He loves telling his mates
2 about new tech and gadgets
Whether it’s online or offline, he likes talking to people
about new interesting technology – and they like it too!
Bob’s opinion matters because
3 He’s an ‘early adopter’
Bob is always the first in line to try new apps, gadgets
and devices. His opinion is going to affect what
his friends do. He’s what we call an Early Adopter!
21. More on early adopters: the lifecycle of a product
It helps to picture the full lifetime of a product and below is a chart of just that. It’s a graph of how many people adopt a product over its
lifetime – it helps to picture it in terms of years, with each chunk being a year. In Year 1, 2.5% of the public will start using it, and so on.

commonplace, cheap or popular.

These are the last people to get something.
Laggards are reluctant, stubborn and
consider your product unnecessary.
22. How To Make Your Ideas Spread
Seth Godin
This is another fantastic TED talk.
Seth Godin is back to tell us about
who early adopters are and what
they truly care about.
1
Find your early adopters
It’s important to find your early adopters, the people that care about what you do enough to be the first to try it, and
hopefully they’ll tell their friends. Here’s Seth Godin to explain the idea in more detail.
23. So Remember these Three steps

24. If you can nail these three steps,
you can hit a home run and go viral
Viral is a term used to describe ultra shareable content – the stuff that flies around the internet all the time. Anything can
go viral from articles and videos to funny pictures of cats.
25. Going viral
Today we’re continuing the work on your movement from last week.
Yesterday we identified exactly who would be interested in your idea
and now it’s time to put the wheels in motion and make it all happen.
