What I Need to Know
This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is
here to help you master homonyms. The scope of this module
permits it to be used in many different learning situations. The
language used recognizes the diverse vocabulary level of
students. The lessons are arranged to follow the standard
sequence of the course. But the order in which you read them
can be changed to correspond with the textbook you are now
using.
After going through this module, you should be able to:
• show understanding about homonyms;

• value patience in doing the activity.

pronounced alike but have different meanings.
Read the following sentences. Note the italicized words.
After reading each sentence, answer the question that
follows. Write your answers on each arrow.

shout.

What is It
The italicized words in the sentences are called homonyms.
Homonyms are words with the same sound and pronounced
alike but differ in meaning.
In the first sentence, the homonyms are aloud and allowed.
In the second sentence, the homonyms are read and red.
In the third sentence, the homonyms are heel and heal.
In the fourth sentence, the homonyms are blew and blue.
In the fifth sentence, the homonyms are sent and cent.
What’s More
Do you understand homonym now? Did you gain
knowledge about the words pronounced the same but differ in
meaning? Now, you are ready to proceed to another activity.
Activity 1: Underline Me
Direction: Underline the correct word inside the parenthesis.

In the first sentence, the homonyms are aloud and allowed. In the second sentence, the homonyms are read and red. In the third sentence, the homonyms are heel and heal. In the fourth sentence, the homonyms are blew and blue. In the fifth sentence, the homonyms are sent and cent. What’s More Do you understand homonym now?
