16. ENVIRONMENT
Ecological impact
COMMUNITY GARDEN PROVIDES :
Therapeutic virtue with physical exercices, outdoor recreations and
nature meditation.
A way to create social link with neighborhood around the same activity.
Because the breakdown of the community is inevitable, the regaining
of the neighborhood starts with the individuals themselves. Thus, each
gardener is the master of his plot :
Residents are considered as valued members.
Promote biodiversity
Breaking up the
monopoly of concrete

Every resident could see the garden.
In order to provide the best service, there is a
limitation of space : around 12 plots.

Usually, I meet my friends near my place, or in
the same area»
«It is hard, I think, to extend people efforts
beyond their home, work and cars »

to explore strategies for creating

think that it is our environment that
modify our personnality»

28. CORRIDORS
WHY THIS PLACE ?
PROXIMITY BORDER PRIVATE -
PUBLIC
Everyday, residents and workers who live in
the Fuzhou Building have to cross this space.
Corridors are the best example to illustrate
Shanghainese behaviours which regards a
mutual appropriation on collective space.
WHERE THE PROJECT IS LOCATED ?
PROJECT DESCRIPTION

COMBINED STRUCTURE
REUSE OF NATURAL LIGHTING
To keep the first users need, which is to
extend their private space with all their
items, props and housing products.
To provide a service which evoluate
in time through user needs. Different
activities according to differents habits.
To help to the creation of collective interest
between neighbors and the possibility for
people to gather their installation.
Installation are made of a reflective
material which help to the spreading of
Natural light in the corridors.
HOW THE PROJECT IS ORGANIZE ?
29. EVERY RESIDENT WHO WANTS TO
IMPROVE THEIR LIVING SPACE
WHICH USER IS CONCERNED BY THE PROJECT ?
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
Better traffic to cumulate different activities and
promote the dialogue between neighbors.
Visual unity and collective identity. To create a
space which truly breathes.
Give the possibility to residents to create their
own space which will evolve with them.
The improvement of social relationship inside the
Fuzhou Building by a mutual interest.
30. USER SCENARIO
Mrs. Li tidy up her flat and
puts her belongings in the new
Cube in front of her door.
Mrs. Li meets Mr. Tao in the
corridor, they seat on the Cube
while they are chatting.
Mrs. Li decides to embelish
her Cube and puts flowers in
the tray.
Mr. Zhou come home from
work with his scooter. He
plugs it on the Cube to fully
recharge the battery.
31. At noon, it’s time to play
Mahjong. Mrs. Li prepares the
place to meet her friends.
Mr. Yu, Mrs. Li’s neighbor, buys
his first Cube. They decide to
connect them together.
Mrs. Li desires more facilities,
she buys an other storage
Cube and organized her own
space.
Mrs. Li and Mr. Yu redefine the
corridor identity by appropriation
on the collective area.
34. SELF-CRITICAL EVALUTATION
POSITIVE
NEGATIVE
Redefine the spatial aspect of the bulky corridors.
Residents have to know the product - the project needs
background in term of communication.
Support dailylife activities of residents.
Be aware of current dimensions in the corridor to
implant a good design project and not bulky furniture.
The project leaves to user a freedom of action.
Facilitate social connection in the Fuzhou Building
neighborhood.

38. WHAT’S NEXT ?
NETWORKING
PROJECT IMPROVEMENT
Improve my networking which regards to the chosen concept.
To improve this concept I will contact Jianming Cai which can
provide advices about Smart Garden and the global community
garden in China. I expect this actor will be my tutor.
This concept needs stakeholders too to be created. I have to contact
furnitures brands as IKEA to promote the idea. In this case, it will be
a partnership project.
Still improve my project with the users feedbacks, field investigations
and conferences about the heritage living space in Shanghai.
Understand all the elements and constraints in the chosen concept to
have a great design project in phase 3.
Continue the experimentations about the shape, the materials, and the
user scenario.
In a second part, I have to find private stakeholders to develop this
project, as an artist or brand which can promote their own name
through the installation. If they are no stakeholders to support the
project, it will be a prospective one.
