This document summarizes several endangered animals of India, including the snow leopard, nilgiri tahr, Kashmiri red stag, Bengal tiger, blackbuck, and red panda. 5. NILGIRI TAHRS
(NILGIRITRAGUS
HYLOCRIUS)
• The Nilgiri tahr is the only mountain
ungulate in southern India amongst
the 12 species present in India. It is
also the state animal of Tamil Nadu.
• The male has a full mane covering
the neck and forequarters. An adult
male can weigh up to 120–140 kg
while females weigh about 60 kg .

6. NILGIRI TAHRS (NILGIRITRAGUS
HYLOCRIUS)
• The Nilgiri tahr faces a multitude of threats such as:
• Habitat loss
• Occasional hunting for its meat and skin.
• As a result of extreme habitat fragmentation, its population has declined drastically in the last few
years.

7. KASHMIRI RED STAG (HANGUL)
• FOUND IN HIGH MOUNTAINS AND VALLEYS IN THE STATE OF KASHMIR INDIA.
• THE´RE ONLY 250 INDIVIDUALS LEFT IN THE WILD.
• IT IS PROTECTED IN SOME SANCTUARIES LIKE THE DACHIGAM NATIONAL PARK.
• THEY LIVE IN GROUPS IN HIGH ALTITUDE OVER 300 METERS.

8. BENGAL TIGER
• THE NATIONAL ANIMAL OF INDIA.
• IT IS CALLED THE SILENT HUNTER.
• ONLY 1 OF 10 HUNTS ARE SUCCESFUL.
• THEY´RE VERY PROCTECTIVE OVER THEIR KILLS

10. THE BLACKBUCK ( INDIAN ANTILOPE)
• ALSO KNOWN AS THE INDIAN ANTILOPE- IS NATIVE OF INDIA.
• INHABITS GRASSLANDS AND LIGHTLY WOODEN AREAS
• THEY REQUIRED WATER DAILY THAT RESTRICT THEIR HABITAT TO SURFACE PLACES
WITHOUT WATER.
• THEIR HERDS ARE HAREM WITH A SINGLE ADULT MALE AND MANY FEMALES .

11. THE BLACKBUCK ( INDIAN ANTILOPE)
• THEIR SENSES OF SMELL AND HEARING ARE HIGHLY DEVELOPED.
• THE ONLY PREDATOR THAT THEY CANNOT OUTRUN IS THE CHEETAH.
• THE BLACKBUCK IS NOW EXTINCT IN BANGALDESH-NEPAL AND PAKISTAN.

12. RED PANDA
In 1825, nearly 50 years before the giant panda was discovered,
Frédéric Cuvier first described the red panda as the most beautiful animal he
had ever seen red pandas are endemic to the high forests of the
Eastern Himalayas They’re distinguishable by their thick red fur, short snouts, and pointed ears but
what really sets these mammals apart are their bushy ringed tails and the teardrop-shaped
markings below their eyes.
