Why do people choose to enter into therapy?

People enter into therapy for a variety of
reasons. Some are faced with sudden and
unexpected life changes which makes them feel
'off-kilter'.

These experiences can stress one's ability to
cope, causing individuals to become
overwhelmed with guilt, shame, self-doubt,
anxiety, or despair.



Why do people choose to enter into therapy?

Input from an unbiased therapist can allow
clients to explore not only what occurred, but
how they were then impacted by this change.

Oftentimes people find themselves caught up in
the process of self-exploration and a quest for
personal growth. Therapy can provide the
necessary support required for clients as they
learn to cope better and to find new solutions
for the problems which might be causing them
to struggle with.



What might I expect from a 'typical' therapy session?

There is no 'typical' therapy session, however clients come to therapy
with a willingness to explore their life (both past and present, when
necessary).

Clients usually speak of the concerns and issues facing them daily, but
sometimes choose to take a look at other factors facing them in their
life, including those which are of an integenerational pattern. The client
should not worry as to what they 'need' to talk about during therapy, as
it is my job to guide you along your journey.

Joyce A. Thompson is a Licensed Clinical
Marriage & Family Therapist (LCMFT) licensed to
practice independently within the State of
Kansas.
Joyce specializes in providing psychotherapy to
individuals, couples, families, and groups. She
also provides Heart-Centered Hypnotherapy to
individuals. She maintains a group private
practice in Wichita, Kansas; Emotional Journey,
LLC.
As the practice has grown, Joyce has brought
on other Licensed Marriage & Family Therapists
(LMFTs) to help in meeting the needs of our
clients.

within the State of Kansas as a Licensed
Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT).

She is working towards her Clinical Licensure
while under the post-graduate supervision of
Steve Rathbun, Ph.D., LCMFT.

Daina specializes in providing psychotherapy to
individuals, couples and families and maintains a
private practice with Emotional Journey, LLC in
Wichita, Kansas.

Daina is a 2010 graduate of Friends University with a Masters of
Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (MSFT).

Jacklyn R. Derstein is licensed to practice within
the state of Kansas as a Licensed Marriage &
Family Therapist (LMFT).

She is working towards her clinical licensure
while under the post-graduate supervision of
Brenda Harvey-Smith, LCMFT.

Jacklyn provides psychotherapy to individuals,
couples and families and sees clients in her
private practice, with Emotional Journey, LLC, in
Wichita, Kansas.

Jacklyn is a 2011 graduate of Friends University with a Master’s
of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (MSFT).

Christie graduated from Friends University with a
Master of Science Degree in Marriage and Family
Therapy (MSFT).

As part of her degree curriculum, she provided
therapy as a clinical intern at the Center on
Family Living located on the campus of Friends
University and at Catholic Charities Harbor
House, a shelter for victims of domestic
violence.

In addition, she developed and facilitated
psychoeducation group programs for victims of
domestic abuse.

Danielle McIntyre graduated from Friends
University with a Master of Science Degree in
Marriage and Family Therapy (MSFT) and is
licensed by temporary license to practice
psychotherapy within the State of Kansas.

She is currently working towards Clinical
Licensure while under the post-graduate
supervision of Michelle Robertson, Ph.D., LCMFT.

Danielle maintains a private practice at
Emotional Journey, LLC in Wichita, KS and
provides therapy services to individuals, couples,
and families.

Eric J. Parks is a Licensed Marriage and Family
Therapist by temporary license in the State of
Kansas.

He has already taken the National Examination;
testing for his LMFT level of licensure. In
addition, Eric is working towards his Clinical
Licensure under the post-graduate supervision
of Dr. Michelle Robertson, LCMFT.

Eric provides psychotherapy to individuals,
couples, and families. He is currently working in
private practice at Emotional Journey, LLC in
Wichita, Kansas.
