Lots of things were invented 
during the Victorian times.
Photographic process 
The photographic process was invented in 1837 
by Louis Daguerre.
Paddle Steamship 
The first ever paddle steamship was made in 
1839 by Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
Camera 
The first camera was invented by Alexander 
Wolcott. His camera design was patented on 
May 8, 1840.
Bicycle with pedals 
The first ever bicycle with pedals was made in 
1840 invented by Kirkpatrick Macmillan.
Postage Stamp 
The first ever postage stamp was made in 1840 
by Rowland Hill.
Christmas Card 
The first Christmas card was made in 1843 by 
John Calcott Horsely.
Morse code 
The Morse code was invented in 1844 by 
Samuel Morse.
Sewing Machine 
The first ever sewing machine was made in 
1846 by Elias Howe.
Ice Cream 
The first ever ice cream was invented in 1851 
by Jacob Fussell, in the USA.
Public Flushing Toilet 
The first ever public flushing toilet opened in 
London in 1852 and was made by George 
Jennings.
Making food Safer 
Louis Pasteur found how to make food safer to 
eat by pasteurising it. This killed bacteria in 
certain foods. The process was invented in 
1856.
Underground Railway 
The world's first underground railway (the 
Tube) was opened in London. It was powered by 
steam and was made in 1863.
Jelly Babies 
The world's first jelly babies were made by an 
Austrian called Herr Steinbeck in Lancashire 
in 1864.
Typewriter 
The typewriter was invented by Christopher 
Sholes in 1873.
Easter Eggs 
The first chocolate Easter eggs were made by 
Fry's of Bristol in 1875.
Telephone 
The first telephone was invented in 1876 by 
Alexander Bell.
Electric Light bulb 
The first electric light bulb was invented by 
Swan and Edison in 1879.
Petrol motor car 
The first ever petrol motor car was built 
by Karl Benz in 1885. Although it could only 
go at 4miles per hour in 1896 the speed limit 
went up to 20 miles per hour.
