The EMMA monitor and fingertip pulse oximeter are portable devices used by Greater Sydney HEMS for airway monitoring and pulse oximetry. The EMMA provides quantitative end-tidal carbon dioxide (EtCO2) monitoring using a disposable airway adapter and operates for 8 hours on 2 AAA batteries. It alarms for low battery, disconnected or missing adapter, and apnea or EtCO2 levels outside user-defined limits. The fingertip pulse oximeter noninvasively measures heart rate and oxygen saturation levels from 70-99% using light absorption and operates for 30 hours on 2 AAA batteries. 4. Battery Change
• Cover Unlock.

5. On / Off
• Press on/off button.
• Insert airway adapter.
• Powers off automatically.
o 15 sec after airway adapter disconnect.
o In apnoea situation, 2 mins after apnoea alarm
cancelled, if no breath detected.

6. Alarms
• Battery low – blinks with 30 mins life left.
• No breath – blinking BPM display and 3
beeps every ~30 sec.
o Default low RR = 3bpm.
• ET CO2 limits exceeded – CO2 display
blinking display and single beep.
o Default: Hi = 50mmHg, Lo = 0mmHg.

• Backup capnometer for the
LP15 monitor in pre-hospital
RSI.
• Backup capnometer for the
Propaq in transport and In
Hospital intubations.
• Spontaneously breathing
patients with LMA, following
failed intubation etc.
• The LP15 and Propaq
remain our primary
monitors.
