2. Colonial life is very interesting. My parents named me Kathryn Rhodes. I was named after my grandmother, Kathryn. I’m 11 years of age.
3. There are five people in our family. My father is John Rhodes and my mother is Abigail Rhodes. I have two sisters Hannah and Claire. I also have a little sister Grace. I love my family very much!
4. My house is up the road from the General Store. The girls’ room is very large and the kitchen is Mama’s favorite room in the house. We have very kind neighbors that live near us.
5. My mother makes us many different clothes. There are many different fabrics at the General Store for my mother to use. I love wearing a new outfit when Mother and Grandmother finished making clothes.
6. My father works on our farm planting corn and beans on many acres. We usually eat all the corn and beans that my father harvests for our meals. My father also works at the General Store in the winter when there is no work to be done at the farm.
7. My mother works at home with my grandmother making our meals and sewing many clothes for us. My mother has inherited many of her cooking skills from Grandmother. She also helps the Doctor care for the sick on Mondays and Wednesdays. All of the patients say she is very good at what she does.
8. My grandmother is Kathryn on my mother’s side, she lives with us. I love it that my Grandmother lives with us in our home. She gets to spend more time with me than if she lived elsewhere. My grandparents on my father’s side are Joseph and Caroline. They live in West Virginia, we miss them often. My Grandparents
9. My daily chores are helping in the house. My sisters and I spent the afternoons cleaning, sewing, and cooking. We enjoy working together to get the job done.
10. We eat deer meat or turkey for our evening meals. We drink cold fresh water from our well and warm milk from our cows. My mother makes tasty apple pie for Sunday dinner . My mother and grandmother work very hard making delicious meals for us each day. . Our Meals
11. There are many laws that everyone must follow. The punishments of breaking the law are very harsh. I think the worst punishment is the Stocks. Everyone tries to follow the law as best as they can. Law and Order
12. Sometimes my sisters and I get spare time to play games. I like to play Ball and Hoops. My sisters teach me interesting new games like Hide and Go Seek and Checkers. Ball Hoop Games
13. The school house is two miles away from our house. We use hornbooks and little chalk boards. We have many friends that go to school with my sisters and me.
14. I don’t get in trouble that often . My older sister, Hannah, gets in trouble the most because she is older than the rest of us. We are sent to our rooms when we are disciplined. We also apologize to our parents when we have made a bad choice.
15. When we are ill the Doctor will visit us. The Doctor will use cloth for wounds and many other herbs. My mother always knows the best things to use to heal us.
16. We are sent to the General Store many times a week. My Mother and Grandmother need many supplies for recipes for our daily meals. The General Store is very helpful when we need things that we don’t have.
17. We go to church every Sunday. Our family sits in the third row. I learn many things at church. I love learning about the Lord. Someday, I hope to be a good Christian young lady.
18. We have a cow named Rosie that gives us milk and the chickens lays our eggs. We also have a pet beagle named Joy. She has had puppies over the summer and we sold them to make money. All of our animals help us on the farm everyday.
