3. Safety “First”
EMI is dedicated to achieving a zero injury
workplace. We empower every employee
and hold them responsible for eliminating
the barriers that prevent us from achieving
a zero injury culture. We believe that
all incidents are preventable and that
safety will take priority over production,
scheduling and cost.
In the construction industry, we have often
heard that it is impossible to integrate safety into our
projects and be profitable. We disagree with this and
have set forth policies and procedures that make
working safely the way we do business. Our dedicated
team of professionals plan safety throughout every
aspect of our work, from the bidding process through
the actual field work. Working safely is our way of life.
Our expectations and goals are to complete our work
accident and incident free. In order to achieve our goals
we believe in Leadership, Training, Communication
and Monitoring. These values are reinforced by EMI,
which strictly follows all OSHA guidelines. All EMI field
personnel have completed the OSHA 10 Hour and 30
Hour Safety Certification.
Providing a safe work environment, free of known
hazards. Through pre-planning, hazards are minimized
or eliminated. Through training in safe work practices and the use of proper personal
protective equipment, protection for hazards that cannot be eliminated is provided.
Requiring pre-planning of every aspect of our work. A safe plan of work is
developed prior to start-up of a project and discussed with all employees involved.
Employees are required to attend daily and weekly tool-box meetings that discuss
that day’s tasks, including hazards and methods for eliminating or minimizing those
hazards. Employee input is encouraged during these meetings.
We continually communicate EMI’s expectations to our employees.
Communication is a very important part of our safety program. We not only
communicate our expectations to our employees, we also encourage feedback so
everyone takes ownership.
Some of the forms of
communication are: Toolbox
Safety Meetings, Job Safety
Analyses, and Safety Stand-
Downs
Current 2014 EMR Rating of - .76

Design Build
EMI is a full-service, integrated design/build contractor that will take on the responsibility for all your
mechanical engineering needs. From concept to design to installation to final product and planned
maintenance, our professional design/build team will engineer your system to meet your individual
budget and operating requirements. With EMI, there are no gaps in service. We are part of your
team and part of the solution from the project inception until well past its completion.
For several years EMI has taken the lead
using Building Information Model (BIM) on
various projects and is a proponent of a fully
integrated and coordinated process. Maximum
utilization of BIM is crucial to the owner, design
and construction team’s ability to:
Visualize the building before it’s
constructed thru Navis Works
Make informed design decisions on
layout and programming
Reduce field conflicts with clash
detection
Connect directly with EMI’s local
fabrication shops
Deliver projects on – and often ahead of
– proposed schedules
How does Design Build improve project delivery?
It’s simple: Design/Build allows for reduced project delivery time and cost by performing
many tasks in parallel rather than the traditional series approach. The traditional method is
to go through the engineering phase, then put the drawings out to bid. Most often bids come in
over the budget. The project then has to go through budget modifications and/or redesign adding
months to the schedule. The design/build method allows the design and pricing to be done in
parallel keeping the design within the project budget the first time.
The End Result:
With design/build we can reduce the construction schedule by months by beginning work in
the field while simultaneously completing the engineering. Concurrent design and construction is
not possible using the traditional engineer / bid / build construction practice.

Lee’s Summit Police Station Gun Range
Durable, Completely-sealed Underground
Air-duct System-Proven to Last!
At EMI, we aren’t afraid of challenges; one that was presented was the
Lee’s Summit Police Station Gun Range. Instead of the traditional
suspended ductwork we went to the underground system called
BlueDuct. This underground air duct system for heating, ventilation
and cooling (HVAC) made it possible. The BlueDuct is the only
proven, direct-burial underground duct system made from ultra-
durable, advanced HDPE (high-density polyethylene). The products
are engineered to protect against corrosion, mold and mildew, radon,
rust, water and air leaks. The BlueDuct systems have been installed in
thousands of buildings, for over a decade, with trouble-free, long-term
performance.

12. Planned Maintenance Programs
With dozens of components, hundreds of moving parts,
and no end to what can go wrong, your heating and
cooling system can give you plenty to worry about.
Without ongoing expert maintenance, any system gets wastefully
inefficient and costly to operate. Equipment starts to wear out too
soon, failures start to happen too often, comfort declines, and
complaints mount.
Why leave your systems to chance?
EMI Planned Maintenance Programs leave nothing to chance.
Let us tailor a program that will fit your budget and we’ll do literally
everything it takes on a scheduled basis to keep your systems
running reliably, efficiently, and economically. Our programs provide
all of the Quality of Care inspection, testing, and analysis of system
components as recommended by the manufacturer. All cleaning,
alignment, lubrication, adjustment and calibration are planned and
scheduled as a regular part of our Planned Maintenance Programs.
Your repairs become a top priority to us over non-contract
customers. We are always on call for you at any time, on any day,
to service your equipment regardless of the make, age, size or
complexity.
Our planned maintenance program allows customers to schedule
in advance the timing of routine maintenance on their key mission-
critical mechanical systems. There are numerous advantages of
having a planned maintenance contract:
Extend equipment life
Save on energy-related expenses
Reduce likelihood of expensive system repair costs
Reduce downtime
Increase productivity
Increase profit

13. EMI offers a product called MicroGuard®
HVAC/R protective treatments
which is designed for use on heating and air conditioning equipment; coils,
fins, tubes, fans and even cabinets. These products can be installed on units
before installation or on previously installed field units with equal success. MicroGuard®
HVAC/R protective
treatments retard corrosion on the non-ferrous metal fins and tubes, thus, extending the life of the equipment
asset and helping to maintain good air flow efficiencies. This fact has been substantiated by numerous salt
chamber tests using ASTM B-117. Coated aluminum fin stock was subjected to well in excess of 6,000 hours in
the salt spray chamber and showed no consequential degradation, due to corrosion; 30% better than our next
closest competitor.
In addition, the cured film of MicroGuard®
HVAC/R protective treatments will not support mold growth.
The completely inorganic nature of the cured film presents no nutrient source for mold. Plus, the cured film
exhibits a slight positive charge, which acts as a natural “repelling” action for mold spores, dirt and other
organic debris, so fins and coils are more easily cleaned, during normal service maintenance cycles. This
single important feature may be the most significant variable for maintaining better indoor air quality.
Further, testing by both independent third party sources and by numerous internal studies has shown that
HVAC/R Units coated with MicroGuard®
protective treatments will operate more efficiently and can save up
to 15% or more in energy costs. Results can vary and periodic cleaning of the coils & fins will contribute to
maintaining the efficient operation of the unit
In addition to saving energy, the MicroGuard®
clear treatment can also extend the operating life of the
HVAC/R equipment asset. This is particular true in coastal salt spray environments, arid desert environments
or around heavily industrialized exposures. Anywhere corrosive environments can significantly shorten the
life expectancy of HVAC/R equipment. MicroGuard®
HVAC/R Clear Protective Treatments can be applied
to equipment before installation, or in the field post installation with equal success. Energy savings and asset
longevity make MicroGuard®
the correct choice.
Whether your needs are for Industrial Maintenance coatings for plant equipment, or protecting numerous
surfaces within a building envelope, or protecting HVAC/R equipment assets, EMI can provide you with high-
performance, cost-effective coating solutions with its MicroGuard®
product line.
MicroGuard®
can also be used for a variety of applications such asAnti-Graffiti, Corrosion Protection, Concrete
Surface Sealer, Tile Surface Sealer &Anti-Skid. So give us a call today and let EMI protect your investment!
