Emerging trends in social media marketing: Big data, IOT, Content Creation and Sharing: Blogging, micro blogging, Streaming Video, Podcasts, and Webinars.
Note: Relevant Case Studies should be discussed in class.
2. Big Data
Extremely large data sets that may be
analysed computationally to reveal
patterns, trends, and associations,
especially relating to human behaviour and
interactions.
Big data is a field that treats ways to
analyze, systematically extract information
from, or otherwise deal with data sets that
are too large or complex to be dealt with by
traditional data-processing application
software.
3. Big Data
Big Data is defined as data that is huge in size.
Bigdata is a term used to describe a collection of
data that is huge in size and yet growing
exponentially with time.
Examples of Big Data generation includes stock
exchanges, social media sites, jet engines, etc.
Big Data could be 1) Structured, 2) Unstructured, 3)
Semi-structured
Volume, Variety, Velocity, and Variability are few
Characteristics of Bigdata
Improved customer service, better operational
efficiency, Better Decision Making are few
advantages of Bigdata.
4. IOT
The Internet of things (IoT) is a system
of interrelated computing devices,
mechanical and digital machines
provided with unique identifiers (UIDs)
and the ability to transfer data over a
network without requiring human-to-
human or human-to-computer
interaction.
5. IOT
#1 What is a simple definition of IoT?
Answer: IoT or Internet of Things is a network of connected devices
that interact and exchange information with each other. The technology
allows connection of two or more devices that connect with each other
and sending and receiving information through the internet.
#2 What are some of the applications of IoT technology?
Answer: IoT based technologies have a lot of different applications.
The technologies are used in process automation, home automation,
smart cars, decision analytics, and smart grids. The list of IoT
applications will grow as the technology evolves in the years ahead.
#3 How do IoT devices communicate with each other?
Answer: An IoT device is connected through an IP network to the
internet. The devices connect to the net either through Ethernet —
wired or wireless — or Bluetooth.
6. IOT
#4 Is there any difference between IoT and machine to
machine (M2M)?
Answer: M2M entails the transfer of information from one
device to another. The term basically refers to point-to-point
communication between the two devices.
In contrast, IoT is a broader term that refers to a network of
connected devices supporting data integration with a specific
application. It involves multi-level communication and flexible
responses.
#5 What is the Future of IoT Technology?
Answer: The applications of IoT looks promising in the years
ahead. IoT technologies will likely be used with other
technological trends like artificial intelligence (AI) and
automated things to deliver integrated smart solutions. The
integration of technologies will create disruptions in different
industries driving new opportunities.

13. Blogging
A blog is a discussion or informational
website published on the World Wide Web
consisting of discrete, often informal diary-
style text entries. Posts are typically
displayed in reverse chronological order, so
that the most recent post appears first, at
the top of the web page.
Blogging is the set of many skills that one
needs to run and control a blog. Equipping
web page with tools to make the process of
writing, posting, linking, and sharing
content easier on the internet.
14. Micro Blogging
Micro blogging is an online broadcast medium
that exists as a specific form of blogging. A
micro-blog differs from a traditional blog in that
its content is typically smaller in both actual
and aggregated file size.
Microblogging is a combination of instant
messaging and content production. With a
microblog, you share short messages with an
online audience to improve engagement.
Social channels like Twitter, Instagram,
Facebook and Pinterest offer popular
platforms for microblogging
15. Streaming Video
Streaming is the continuous
transmission of audio or video files from
a server to a client. In simpler terms,
streaming is what happens when
consumers watch TV or listen to
podcasts on Internet-connected devices.
With streaming, the media file being
played on the client device is stored
remotely, and is transmitted a few
seconds at a time over the Internet.

17. Streaming Video
Streaming video is content sent in compressed
form over the Internet and displayed by the
viewer in real time. With streaming video
or streaming media, a Web user does not
have to wait to download a file to play it.
Instead, the media is sent in a continuous
stream of data and is played as it arrives.
The user needs a player, which is a special
program that uncompresses and sends video
data to the display and audio data to
speakers. A player can be either an integral
part of a browser or downloaded from the
software maker's Web site.
18. Podcasts
A podcast is an episodic series of
spoken word digital audio files that a
user can download to a personal device
for easy listening.
Streaming applications and podcasting
services provide a convenient,
integrated way to manage a personal
consumption queue across many
podcast sources and playback devices.

20. Webinars
A webinar is an event held on the
internet which is attended exclusively by
an online audience. This distinguishes it
from a webcast, which also includes the
presence of a physical audience. Other
terms used as alternatives
for webinar are web event, online
seminar, webcast, web lecture and
virtual event.
