Ericsson Technology Review: Integrated access and backhaul – a new type of wi...Ericsson
Today millimeter wave (mmWave) spectrum is valued mainly because it can be used to achieve high speeds and capacities when combined with spectrum assets below 6GHz. But it can provide other benefits as well. For example, mmWave spectrum makes it possible to use a promising new wireless backhaul solution for 5G New Radio – integrated access and backhaul (IAB) – to densify networks with multi-band radio sites at street level.
This Ericsson Technology Review article explains the IAB concept at a high level, presenting its architecture and key characteristics, as well as examining its advantages and disadvantages compared with other backhaul technologies. It concludes with a presentation of the promising results of several simulations that tested IAB as a backhaul option for street sites in both urban and suburban areas.
5G + AI: The Ingredients For Next Generation Wireless InnovationQualcomm Research
5G and AI are two of the most disruptive technologies the world has seen in decades. While each is individually revolutionizing industries and enabling new experiences, the combination of both 5G and AI is going to be truly transformative. Applying AI not only to the 5G network but also the device will lead to more efficient wireless communications, longer battery life and enhanced user experiences. The low latency and high capacity of 5G will also allow AI processing to be distributed amongst the device, edge cloud and central cloud, enabling flexible system solutions for a variety of use cases. At Qualcomm Technologies, we are not only working on cutting-edge research for 5G and AI, but we are also exploring their synergies to realize our vision of the future. View this presentation to learn how AI is making 5G better -- in the network and on the device, why on-device AI processing is essential, and how 5G is empowering distributed learning over wireless.
5G will transform the IoT, expanding the reach of 5G and mobile technologies beyond smartphones. This presentation talks about how 5G is opening doors to new use cases, what is in the 5G evolution that will address the expanding IoT needs, and what Qualcomm is doing to deliver end-to-end technologies and solutions.
This slide pack gives an overview of what initiatives CSP/Telco's need to address to take advantage of Digital Transformation and next wave of Disruptive technologies to gain Customer confidence and improve Customer Experience using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning approach.

Accelerating our 5G future: a first look at 3GPP Rel-17 and beyondQualcomm Research
In December 2019, the scope of 3GPP Release 17 was decided in the Plenary meeting in Spain. This presentation outlines the details of this 3rd release of 5G standards.
5G will connect billions of devices, things and people and bring an Ocean of new opportunities to cope with continuous traffic growth, low latency service expectations, energy efficiency, urban density and many other requirements demanding more and more innovation in the CMOS, MEMS and Protonics space but also many other areas.
Fixed Broadband Business Case - Short VersionAndre Fourie
The revenue that can be generated by an LTE base station is influenced by the quality of the signal received by the customer premise equipment (CPE). Most CPE come with omni-directional indoor antennas, but have provision for the connection to external antennas.
Substituting the indoor antennas for directional outdoor antennas has a marked effect on the data transfer speeds of the network. There are two reasons for this. Firstly, outdoor antennas are physically larger than their indoor counterparts and thus have a higher gain. The increase in antenna gain translates directly to an increase in received signal strength. The second advantage is that the outdoor antenna sits in an environment that has much better propagating properties than the indoor antenna. Tests have shown that data speeds 3-5 times faster are possible using external antennas compared to indoor antennas.
It is shown, using a primitive financial model that fairly large financial gains can be made by equipping CPE devices with external antennas. The summary financial effects below are well backed up by real life case studies and theory which interested readers can read in the remainder of this document.
Carlos Lopez Blanco of Telefonica discusses a re-evaluation of "convergence" which has promised much but delivered little. Broadband must be seen as the key provision in convergence whilst policymakers need to overcome real challenges including a consistent enforcement of net neutrality principles, a strengthening of consumer trust and control and an alignment of international policy in data privacy and processing.
Ericsson Technology Review: Meeting 5G latency requirements with inactive stateEricsson
Low latency communication and minimal battery consumption are key requirements of many 5G and IoT use cases, including smart transport and critical control of remote devices. Thanks to Ericsson’s 4G/5G research activities and lessons learned from legacy networks, we have identified solutions that address both of these requirements by reducing the amount of signaling required during state transitions, and shared our discoveries with the 3GPP.
This Ericsson Technology Review article explains the why and how behind the new Radio Resource Control (RRC) state model in the standalone version of the 5G New Radio standard, which features a new, Ericsson-developed state called inactive. On top of overcoming latency and battery consumption challenges, the new state also increases overall system capacity by decreasing the processing effort in the network.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
