An obituary for the (traditional and independent) publishing industry?sndrspk
The document discusses how the traditional publishing industry is facing challenges from new forms of publishing like Wikipedia, where content is created by amateurs rather than professionals. Wikipedia has seen enormous growth and proven accurate according to studies. Embedded publishing, where organizations publish content to support core goals rather than for publishing itself, is another new form that is becoming more common and affordable.

The document discusses embedding structures for e-learning change at Nottingham Trent University. It outlines how the university developed an engagement process for an e-learning project using a customer value methodology to define success criteria. This included focus groups and a survey to capture stakeholder needs. A project structure was established including steering committees, testing groups, and working groups to develop policies and oversee technical integration. This process has now been institutionalized and was used to engage stakeholders in developing minimum online teaching standards.
Nottingham Trent University underwent a process to select a new virtual learning platform (VLE) after issues with supporting their existing home-grown system. They hired an external company to conduct workshops with staff and students to define requirements for a successful eLearning environment. Based on these workshops, the university sent a tender to 39 organizations and shortlisted 4 to provide demonstrations. Two final suppliers were selected and issued a detailed tender, with one - Desire2Learn - emerging as the selection after a rigorous evaluation process. The selection process was thorough but resulted in cultural challenges due to Desire2Learn's limited presence outside of North America. The university has now begun implementing the new VLE.

The Adventures of Johnny Bunko is America’s first business book in the Japanese comic format known as manga – and the last career guide you’ll ever need.
Stephen Locascio is the general manager of two bars in Texas who believes the legal drinking age should remain 21. He has a degree related to addictive disorders and four years of experience managing bars. Locascio has three main concerns about lowering the drinking age to 18. First, he questions how bars would handle the change in clientele and issues around insurance coverage. Second, as a father he worries about how a younger generation would be prepared for alcohol responsibilities. Third, he argues the risks of increased premature deaths outweigh potential economic benefits, and lowering the age could negatively impact public health statistics. Locascio's perspective is informed by his education and experience in the alcohol industry.
