elephants’ trunks can grow
up to the size of 2 meters
long. An elephants’ trunk is
actually an elongated nose.
Like most noses, trunks are
for smelling. But elephant
trunks are for eating,
drinking, spraying water on
them ,spraying dust on
them and grasping.
The scientific name for the African
elephant is Loxodonta Africana.
African elephants live in the wild ,on much
of the African continent, most of all
south of the Sahara.
One elephant can eat 300
pounds (136 kilograms)
of food in one day.
Teeth and pregnancy
Out of all animals, elephants have
the longest pregnancy. It lasts 22
months.
Elephant tusks are ivory
teeth that grow throughout
the animals' lives.
People hunt elephants mainly
for their ivory tusks.
Age and food
Elephants can live to be about 70 years old.
Elephants eat
fruit, bark,
grass and
leaves.
