3. Catalog Description: This is a continuation of FLS: 141. Further attention is given to
the essentials of the structure and vocabulary using different resources in structural manner.

Small group instruction, working in pairs, one-on-one with the instructor, use of
interactive computer programs, videos, tapes, interaction with native speakers.
Please bring your Workbook to class. Not all the activities on the workbook will be assigned.
Policy for Attendance / Participation:
Successful completion of this class requires attendance and participation, and students
are expected to attend every class session. It is college policy that "only school related
activities are excused absences." If an absence occurs because of a field trip related to
another class or to athletics, or if student knows ahead of time that a class will be
missed, the student is responsible for the assignment before the absence occurs.
Outside appointments are to be scheduled during days off, vacation time, or times other
than class time.
Attending class means arriving at the starting time and remaining until class is
dismissed. Arriving late or leaving early will result in your being counted absent for the
day. If you must arrive late due to an emergency situation, please wait until the end of
the class time to discuss the situation with the instructor.
Also note the course starting and ending dates. I do expect attendance for the final
examination, and I do not allow excused absences on that date. Failing to complete
the final examination will result in failure of the course. Arrange your mid-term
and end-of-semester travel plans to fit the class schedule.
9. Grading Policy: Grading Policy
This is a mastery learning class. That is, a student is asked to retake any exams
where the student receives below 80%. The retake does not count above 80% but does
allow a student to maintain a C or better average in the class. All exams are
departmental and consistency in grading these exams has been established.

Scholastic Dishonesty:
Iowa Central Community College may initiate disciplinary proceedings against a
student accused of scholastic dishonesty. Scholastic dishonesty includes, but is not
limited to, cheating and plagiarizing. Plagiarism is presenting someone else’s words
as your own, whether in speaking or writing. Cheating and plagiarism, whether
intentional or accidental, are serious offenses.
Scholastic dishonesty will not be tolerated in this course.
You are plagiarizing if you
• Use direct quotes without quotation marks and textual citation of the

• Paraphrase without crediting the source
• Present another’s ideas as your own without citing the source
• Submit material written by someone else as your own (this includes

6. An instructor who suspects a student of scholastic dishonesty will inform the student
of the allegation as soon as possible. It is up to the instructor to determine the
disciplinary action to be taken. In this course, verified cases of plagiarism or
cheating will result in automatic failure of the course. There will be no opportunity to
make up the work.
The instructor will send a written report of the incident to the student, the department
chair, and the Vice-President of Instruction.
Withdrawal Policy:
New Procedure
1. The student will submit the withdrawal request online.
2. The instructor immediately receives an email telling him/her that the student has
requested to drop.
3. The instructor will go into Web Advisor and approve or deny the request.
4. If the instructor does not respond immediately, he/she will receive an email each
night until the request is approved or denied.
5. If the instructor does not respond after two working days, the department chair will
receive an email saying the instructor has not responded to the request yet.
6. Once the request is approved, the Student Records office will withdraw the student
based on the date the student submitted the request.
Adding/Dropping Courses: Courses may be added only during the first four days of
classes. A student may withdraw from the course by the date published in your student
handbook. Not attending a class does not constitute a withdrawal.
Student resources:
The Student Success Center (SSC) is available to all students at Iowa Central. The
SSC is located in the Student resource center. Services available: tutorial assistance,
study skills, computer assistance, and career information.
In addition, an open computer lab is available in room 406 AST. Computers are also
available in the Student resource center. You must have a valid ICCC student ID to use
the Library computers.
Student Support Services (SSS), located in the Student resource center, offers extra
help with classes, financial aid, career planning, study habits, or transferring to a 4-year
institution. They also provide free cultural events and workshops designed to maximize
your college experience. You may be eligible to participate in the Student Support

Homework, Make-up Work, Class Cancellation:
Homework will be collected at the end of the class it is due. If students are absent from
a class session, they are still responsible for submitting the homework to the instructor
and for finding out assignments for the following class period.
The tests will be in www.kubbu.com after the last day of the unit up to one week to be
taken. You can take as many times as you see necessary.The highest grade will be
used.
If you know you will be absent for an extended period of time, please tell me in advance
about how you will make up your missed assignments.
Use common sense when weather conditions are bad. No class is worth losing your
life in a traffic accident. Be sure to listen to the radio for weather-related
announcements. If class is canceled because of inclement weather, continue with
assigned coursework according to the unit
Weather Policy: In the event of extreme weather conditions necessitating closing the
college, these radio stations will announce the closing, starting at 6 am for day classes:
KVFD, KUEL, KKEZ, KIAQ, KQWC, KTPR, KHBT, KTLB, KAYL, and KDLS. If class is
canceled because of inclement weather, continue with assigned coursework.
