This document summarizes education data from central Texas. It shows that from 2003-2011: - There were huge gaps in 3rd and 5th grade math and reading scores between white, Asian, and higher-income students and their African American, Hispanic, and low-income peers. - Pre-K enrollment more than doubled while kindergarten growth was around 40%, indicating more students are starting school earlier. - Retention rates were highest in early elementary and declined in later grades, yet still disproportionately impacted African American and Hispanic students. - Only around 30% of African American and Hispanic 3rd and 5th graders achieved "Commended" status on state tests, showing large gaps
