All About Electricity Unit Plan
Thursday
Analyze the Learner
My class is a fourth grade class of 24 students-- 13 boys and 11 girls.
• 14 of my students are white, 7 are African American, and 3 are
Asian.
• One student has Asperger’s, four have ADHD, and one has
dyslexia.
• Two students are gifted learners.
State the Objectives
By the end of the day, my students will construct an electromagnet and evaluate
how it works, with 75% of the learners finishing the lesson proficient on the topic.
Select the Methods, Media, and Materials
We will need a batteries, wire, and iron nails to create the electromagnet. We will
need paper clips to manipulate with the electromagnet. We will also take a look
at our class blog. We will need iPads to record our voices.
Utilize Media and Materials
I will divide my students into teams of two and distribute materials needed to
build an electromagnet. We will review the class blog on our Smart Board. We
will use our iPads to record our voices to make podcasts about our lesson.
Require Learner Participation
We will begin class by talking about circuits and magnets. Then, students will
work with their partner, under my instruction, to build an electromagnet. We will
manipulate our electromagnets to work and not work and discuss why that
happens. Students will then work with their partners to write a short podcast
about they have learned about electromagnets. They will record what they wrote
using the iPads to create a Podcast.
Evaluate and Revise
I will assess my students’ understanding my listening to their podcasts. I will be
able to see what key facts they learned about electromagnets by considering
what they included in their podcasts.
