Eika Gruppen is a large banking alliance in Norway consisting of 69 local banks, 207 branches, over 3,000 employees, and assets totaling 360 billion NOK serving over 1 million customers. As excellent customer experience is the new standard, Eika is looking to partner with other fintech companies through their upcoming PSD2 hackathon this spring to contact Marcus Eger to pitch innovations that can help create the next generation of banking and build on their APIs to better serve customers.

- Greetings fellow nerds – My name is Marcus – Head of digital business development in Eika. Nerds said with upmost respect! EU directive exciting, anxiously awaits the RTS – Well.. enough said… Now I truly belive that at some point -done playing cool in the schoolyard, nerdiness actually becomes a a badge of honor, a sign of quality if you will…. Now as a nerd I enjoy talking about my interests to friends an family, and naturally assume they are as interrested as me. However when talking about this new and exciting EU directive these are the faces i usually get….
- We talk about PSD2, we work with PSD2, PSD2 is kinda a big thing for us. BUT there are NO expectations amongst ordinary customers, they dont know what is about to hit them… 2 - How do we succeed when there are no customer needs to fulfill I’ll get back to that in a moment.
- Eika has a large distribution network and a loyal customer base… Quite frankly, when I see this, I kinda feel that Eika is a large player in this game.
- Now – to put things into perpective… This is yearly result for Eika in white, DNB in blue, 2 – I have to admint this a bit misleading…. the slide was not big enough for Apple, so this is in fact quarterly result for Apple
- Eika targets customers seeking security who wants a bank that is personal -understand their needs -able to fulfill We call this our three steps… 1 - Simple and user friendly – DONE - ENGINE mobilebank in Sitecore, personalization, 3rd parties ready etc… 2 – Moving out, buying house, expanding you business etc… 3 Dreams - a cabin, stepping back from work to spend time with your family… 4 – We currently have this with 3000 employees giving everything to meet our customers needs on a more personal level. Now, you are probably anxious to hear about our API’s, after all thats why you are here….
- 1 - We currently have working 2 API’s, Eika to Vipps, and an open API from Eika to everybody 2 – When i say Eika, I really meen SDC wich supplies our core systems and are located in Copenhagen - bound by PSD2 as of now. 3 – We are using Azure, and have a working developer portal ready for innovation.
- How is this new reality going to hit us? If the current development rate is any guide we might percieve the situation something like this… 1 - Looking bak, we see a slightly climbing curve 2 - Looking forward there is a steady but comfortable climb… However, when using the rate of acceleration in development speed, the future may just look like this… 3 – A pretty steep climb, and to be honest, I have no idea whats on the top..
- So how to we meet this challenge…. I asked earlier how do we succeed when there are no customer needs, well we create them – obviesly But how do we do it 1 - Alone 2 - or by forming partnerships like Vipps? Place your bets… In that spirit…
