1. Personal Narrative Today you are going to write a true story about something that happened to you. It will be easy, because we have a map to guide us through our journey from the beginning to the end. So let’s get started! Garvin-Villarreal, 2010
2. Our story map… Think about something that happened in your life. This will be a true story about an experience that you think will be interesting to share with the class. You will start by drawing pictures in the boxes to help you write your story. Let’s start with the setting. When and where did your personal narrative take place?

5. Who is the story about? Of course a personal narrative is about you… so you have to draw a picture of yourself in this box! But who was else was in the story? Family members? Friends? Strangers? Pets? Don’t forget…it has to be a true story for a personal narrative. No dragons, ghosts, or cartoon characters! Now, draw a picture on your story map of the character or characters in your story. Don’t forget you can write names in the box too!
6. Now just tell us what happened! What happened in your story? How did it make you feel? This is your opportunity to share something about your life. Now, draw a picture or symbols of the how you felt and what happened in your story. Don’t forget you can write words in the box too! Once you have finished your story map, you are ready to write your personal narrative in sentences on the lines below. Make sure to use high frequency words, powerful verbs, and spicy adjectives! Don’t worry if you mess up a little… this is only a rough draft!
