CONCEPT
In order to capture the concept
of flight, Saarinen used curves to
create spaces that flowed into
one another. The exterior's
concrete roof imitates a bird in
flight with two massive "wings."
The interior consists of a
continuous ribbon of elements,
all whisking themselves in from
the exterior, so that ceilings
continously run into walls and
those walls become floors.

6. BUILDING
CONSTRUCTION
The terminal is a pioneering example of thin-shell construction
consisting of a reinforced concrete shell supported at the corners.
It featured a prominent wing-shaped thin shell roof supported by four
"Y"-shaped piers.
nside was an open three-level space with tall windows enabling views
of departing and arriving jets.
Two tube-shaped red-carpeted departure-arrival corridors extended
outward from the terminal

7. INTERIOR
SPACES
Inside spaces coexist and organic forms,
defining, despite being diametrically opposed,
the broad spectrum of architectural
expression of Eero Saarinen. This is a large
deck that houses a single hall with shapes and
objects available to travelers who appear as
sculptural works.
