Edge computing involves processing data close to where it is generated by IoT devices, rather than sending all data to a central cloud location. This helps reduce latency issues and network traffic as real-time data does not need to travel long distances. Edge devices are computing devices located near IoT sensors that can perform initial processing and analysis of data before sending a smaller amount of data to the cloud. Edge computing was developed to help process the enormous amounts of data generated by growing numbers of IoT devices.
