Abstract photography focuses on shape, form, color, texture, and pattern rather than recognizable subjects. French photographer Eddy De Azevedo takes abstract photos using everyday materials like fabrics, bottle caps, and paper. He frames the collections of objects to fit the camera perfectly and layers them, seeking to make the viewer forget the objects and focus on the colors.

1. WHAT IS ABSTRACT PHOTOGRAPHY?
Abstract photography focuses on shape, form, color, texture
and pattern. Usually, the viewer of the photograph often
cannot see the whole object in the photograph and also
more than likely the subject of the photograph is only a
small part of the meaning of the photograph.
2. Eddy De Azevedo is a French photographer who is inspired by Mark Rothko and
1950s color field paintings. Azevedo uses everyday materials such as fabrics,
broken lighters, bottle caps, books and paper to his photographs. The way that
Eddy De Azevedo frames his pictures (he puts his collections of objects into a
shape that perfectly fits the frame of the camera. He uses ‘Office’ for paper,
‘Dressing’ for fabric and ‘Walking my Dog’ for objects that he has collected whilst
taking his dog out for a walk.
3. From the photograph (on the left) you can tell that Eddy De
Azevedo uses layers in his photographs, for example with stacked
paper, stacks of books. He seeks and accomplishes an effect
where the viewer forgets about the objects in the photograph and
focuses on the colors used instead.
