Squares are the most common 2D shape used in origami due to their ease of use. Triangles can also be used but are less common because they have fewer vertices and sides to fold. Pentagons, hexagons, and other n-gons can be made through origami folding but some shapes are more difficult to fold into other geometric forms than others such as squares.
