Photosynthesis allows plants to make their own food, called glucose, through a process that occurs in the leaves. It requires light, which the plant's leaves use to produce glucose from water and carbon dioxide. This glucose gives the plant energy and is stored for later use. Oxygen is also produced during photosynthesis, which humans and other organisms need to breathe.
