I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my bike ». On pourrait considérer la chanson « Bicycle race » de Queen comme l’hymne officieux des Pays-Bas. C’est dire que nous prenons beaucoup et souvent notre vélo.
Pourquoi ? Parce que faire du vélo, c’est arriver frais et dispos, plus créatif et plus positif à son travail. Ou encore à l’école, au club de sport, etc. J’espère donc que cette brochure va contribuer à l’augmentation du nombre de kilomètres parcourus à vélo dans le monde.
Les Pays-Bas jouissent d’une solide réputation cycliste, mais le vélo est devenu un phénomène à la mode au niveau mondial. Il occupe désormais une position importante dans les transports et dans la politique de la circulation routière de nombreux pays.
Cela s’explique par un certain nombre de raisons pertinentes.
Premièrement : La circulation dans les villes se fluidifie. Le vélo occupe très peu de place dans
la circulation comme dans les parkings et il est très flexible dans les déplacements de porte-à- porte. Aussi le vélo est-il souvent considéré comme le « dégrippant » du système de circulation urbaine. Deuxièmement : Avec la marche à pied, le vélo est de loin la façon la plus durable de se déplacer. Pas d’émission, pas de bruit.
Troisièmement : Le vélo c’est la santé. Il permet de faire très facilement l’exercice physique
dont on a besoin tous les jours. En faisant du vélo, on lutte non seulement contre l’obésité mais aussi contre les maladies cardiovasculaires, le diabète, le cancer. La forme et la santé des gens s’améliorent.
