"Think global…Act local"
Contextual Analysis:
Tunisia has been coveted for decades with those beautiful beaches of golden
sand or vast deserts, and we never thought to put the natural and cultural heritage
north-west areas to serving another type of tourism that today called alternative
tourism or eco-tourism.
Alternative tourism is a form of sustainable tourism joined both solidarity
tourism and respect for the focus on the discovery of the natural environment, the
ecosystem and rural areas.
Alternative Tourism ... ECO Tourism?
A variety of terms are used to describe tourism that would be an alternative
to mass tourism. The concepts of responsible, sustainable, supportive, fair and
community tourism are used to name these new forms of tourism.
In these notions correspond many charters and codes of conduct after the
Earth Summit in Rio in 1992 (Ethics of the passenger charter tourism fair, Global
Code of Ethics for Tourism, sustainable tourism charter ...). The criteria are
evolving and changing to the point that it is difficult or impossible to have a clear
and accepted by all definition.
We will try to give the specifics of each of these alternative forms of tourism.
Responsible tourism and sustainable tourism are the two concepts
that can bring all the others. It is tourism that weighs the consequences of his
actions for the first. Sustainable tourism meanwhile refers to all forms of tourism
that respect, preserve and enhances long-term natural resources.
2
The equitable tourism draws on the principles of fair trade. It is marked
by a willingness to involve host communities, by democratic decision-making,
production methods environmentally friendly and fair remuneration of local
services. This is a tool to rebalance the trade relations between the North and the
South.
This type of tourism can be classified into economic and social spheres of
sustainable tourism.
Ecotourism is based on the discovery of nature and traditional cultures
prevailing in natural areas tourism. It has an element of education and
interpretation must be aware of the need to preserve the natural and cultural
heritage. There is a focus on environmental tourism.
Solidarity tourism is to bring the tourists to a concrete act of solidarity.
This can take different forms such as support for a development project for
example. It is therefore here a participatory tourism, where the primary concern is
more social and environmental order. The choice of partners is focused on the most
disadvantaged actors.
Tourism "for the poor" ("pro-poor tourism") is defined as a tool for
positive discrimination. It aims to involve the poor to a maximum level in the
organization. The only requirement for this type of tourism is to make the fight
against poverty at the top of the tourism project.
This form of tourism can be established in the North West of Tunisia
granted appropriate land through the region with a unique biodiversity and natural
wealth (a large forest area, water supply dams, lakes hilly, diverse and a great
diversity of wildlife farming ...).
General goal:
Promote alternative tourism "TA" in Tunisia specifically in the North West.
Taking into account the three pillars of sustainable development concept.
Equitable Economy.
viable society.
livable environment.
3
Specific Goals:
Promote ecological and solidarity tourism that respects the environment and
builds the capacity of local people to integrate into the local development process
through the establishment of circuits hiking in the North West in 2014.
Study and analyze the current situation in relation to the implementation of
projects of alternative tourism in the North West
Consider the interest of the residents cited referred to the creation of alternative
tourism projects on their territory and their degree of willingness to take part in this
process.
Sensitize the target population (rural residents, developers, travel agencies,
authorities in connection with the subject ...) for the creation of alternative tourism
project in the North West.
Group (s) target (s):
Local Inhabitants in target areas.
The developers and investors.
Travel agencies.
The authorities in connection with the subject of the project (Ministry of
Tourism, Ministry of Development, Ministry of Environment and Ministry
of Agriculture).
Actions & Activities:
Actions and activists are divided according to the types or categories of
target groups. There is also a work in the field of collecting data and information
linking the project to create a complete study and a database that can help us to the
success of our project "ECO-VASION."
Action1:
Data collection and creation of a database for selected areas (statistics, previous
studies, identification of agents involved ...) and that by working with institutions,
organizations or NGOs.
A fieldwork that can remain as for the duration of the project.
4
Action 2:
With the authorities "to the local and national level" and developers and
investors in connection with the subject of the project, Get in touch with
developers, investors and national and regional authorities to promote the concept
of alternative tourism and find a possible collaboration to prepare favorable to our
project site.
Field visits "target sites" with a pilot session in circuits of hiking in the target
areas to provide alternative tourism "TA" for personal authorities, developers and
investors to convince them of the feasibility and the reliability of our project
"ECO-VASION."
Action 3:
Organize events to raise awareness and promotion of alternative tourism
(such as days of alternative tourism, roundtable, festival ...)
This is an advertising action. As part of the promotion of the idea of the
"ECO ESCAPE", we decided to organize a public event in the city of El Kef in
northwest Tunisia The event is to organize a half marathon that was called
« ECO-MARATHON » which runs along a route of 02 miles from the city of
El Kef (3.2km) and target the participation of at least 200 participants. The choice
of the marathon as an event to promote the project "ECO-VASION" is not
thoughtless, far away we want through this sporting event to give participants the
opportunity to breathe the fresh mountain air and contemplate the beautiful scenery
of the romantic city fortress of Kef and give credit to this pearl of northern Tunisia
to be one of the preferred destinations for hikers and nature lovers, culture,
traditions and tourism alternative.
This event supports the following dimensions:
• Sport dimension: This is a major event that promotes sport underdeveloped in
Kef, running 2 miles next to a race for disabled with several other sports activities
for everyone "men and women "and for all age groups" children, youth and adults
" " sport for all ".
• The tourism dimension: Eco-city marathon Kef takes place in a festive
atmosphere attracting a large number of participants, tourists and athletes who
5
come to participate in the race and enjoy the riches of the natural and built
landscape city of Kef.
• The cultural dimension: The organization of practical workshops sport center Kef
which are invited sports specialists 'athletes' and celebrities 'artists and musicians'
and other stakeholders in relation to the event .
• The environmental dimension: Raise awareness of the need to respect the
environment.
This event will take place in the city of Kef on 12-05-2013.
Action 4:
This action is with the locals in target areas.
Develop and organize dialogue sessions and awareness with the people targeted by
this project to explain and integrate the concept of the subject "TA" areas.
Action 5: as a micro project « ECO-Energy ».
This activity is with the locals target areas especially young "students,
scholars, and students," which aims to train peer (s) teacher (trice) s.
Objectives:
Promoting renewable energy among young people.
Establish sustainable culture.
Activities:
Training sessions and sensitization on renewable energy.
The micro is installed three models of renewable energy that consumes green
and sustainable energy sources (solar panels, wind propeller, propeller tidal)
"models, miniatures and prototypes" all that will be linked to the room lighting
class institutions will in the youth (school colleague and youth center) available at
sites targeted by our project "ECO-VASION" and let the kids using these models,
models, and prototypes of renewable energy technology.
6
Action 6: the media and mobilization.
Establish an external communication strategy: research sponsors,
participation in fairs and media coverage of the project in order to attract a large
number of stakeholders.
