Economic gardening is an alternative economic development strategy that focuses on supporting existing small businesses rather than business recruitment. It involves providing small businesses with market research, networking opportunities, and connectivity to resources to help them grow. Libraries can play a key role by providing business resources and basic consultation to local entrepreneurs. The MARC/MTEAM project in Meridian Township, Michigan is a public-private partnership that utilizes the local library and its resources to create a one-stop shop to stimulate local entrepreneurship.
