Problemas y nuevos Enfoques Latinoamericanos de la Ecología Política: Post-Neoliberalismo, neo-extractivismo y políticas públicas
This document outlines a research project led by Nicholas Anastasopoulos exploring futures, nature, and commoning in Ecuador. The project involves collaborators from Ecuador, England, Colombia, Spain, and the US examining how Ecuador can transition to a social knowledge-based economy grounded in the concepts of Rights to Nature and Sumak Kawsay/Buen Vivir introduced in Ecuador's constitution. The research will consider physical and immaterial commons, local and global commons, and how commoning sense can support a sustainable system through collective action and a different societal ethos compared to unsustainable global practices.
The document discusses the CEECEC project and EJOLT project, which aim to teach ecological economics and political ecology concepts to environmental NGOs. It describes how NGOs can inform academic concepts through case studies, and how academic concepts like "ecological debt" have informed activist movements. It summarizes several case studies from the CEECEC project handbook that examine topics like mining, waste management, and protected areas from an ecological economics perspective. It also discusses how the concept of "degrowth" has moved from activist movements to academic research on transitioning to a steady-state economy in a socially and environmentally sustainable way.
Dr. Samuel Ochola holds several advanced degrees related to environmental science and geosciences. He has extensive experience working as a lecturer and consultant on issues related to climate change, disaster risk reduction, and sustainable development in Kenya and other parts of Africa. His background includes research, teaching, project work, publishing, and consulting for organizations like UNEP and World Bank.

Planetary health aims to achieve the highest standard of health and well-being for all people worldwide through consideration of both human systems and Earth's natural systems. It recognizes that human health depends on environmentally sustainable and socially just societies. The commission outlines three main challenges to address - conceptual challenges to account for future health and environmental impacts, knowledge challenges around transdisciplinary research and drivers of ill health, and governance challenges. Planetary health demands new partnerships across disciplines and attention to governance to address pervasive knowledge failures.
Safeguarding human health in the Anthropocene epoch: report of The Rockefelle...Carol Daemon
The document is a report from The Rockefeller Foundation–Lancet Commission on planetary health that addresses the threats that environmental changes pose to human health. The summary identifies three main challenges: 1) conceptual failures to prioritize long-term health and sustainability over short-term economic gains, 2) knowledge failures around transdisciplinary research on social and environmental health drivers, and 3) implementation failures in governmental responses to environmental health threats. The report calls for action across multiple sectors to promote policies that improve health and environmental sustainability, especially for vulnerable populations. Key recommendations include accounting for natural capital, balancing economic growth with sustainability, transforming energy and agricultural systems, and expanding transdisciplinary research on health and environmental linkages.
The document discusses the configuration of VLANs on switches and subinterfaces on routers to support both IPv4 and IPv6 routing. VLANs allow logical separation of IP networks on a single physical switch. Subinterfaces on routers assign unique IP addresses, subnets, and VLAN associations to support multiple logical networks on a single physical interface. Example configurations are provided for switches to assign ports to VLANs 10, 20 and 30 and for routers to configure subinterfaces with IPv4 and IPv6 addresses for VLANs 10, 20, 30 using RIP and RIPng routing protocols.

Environmental and Ecological Conflicts of India: A Reviewijtsrd
The term Ecological Distribution Conflicts (EDCs) was coined by Martinez Alier and Martin O Connor in 1996 to describe social conflicts born from the unfair access to natural resources and the unjust burdens of pollution. Environmental benefits and costs are distributed in a way that causes conflicts. Conflict on nature which harms the biological environment has increased in frequency and intensity of India. This manifest themselves as political, social, economic, ethnic, religious or territorial conflicts or conflicts over resources or natural interests or any other type of conflict. They are traditional conflicts induced by an environmental degradation. The paper focus on how environmental conflict challenges on the contemporary environmental issue. This paper aim to rethink ecosystem conservation perspective and can draw special attention to have our capacity building on ecological system sustainable. A common resource that is not recognized and protected as such, and which is not given the value it deserves, is as if it does not exist. so it can now easily be transformed into a private investment and exploitation. A cultural heritage risks because of oblivion to be reduced to commercial exploitation.
Plato's Academy represents such a case in Athens. It had remained invisible for Athenians for most of the 20th century. Cultural reverence gave way to industry, to a working-class neighborhood, and to unplanned urban development, and in recent years to alternative ecological and community movements. Appropriating the term “Academy” as well as planning for a shopping mall represents an ethical problem essential to an intangible national, as well as European and World heritage relating to the birth of philosophical inquiry.

Kinetic studies on malachite green dye adsorption from aqueous solutions by A...Open Access Research Paper
Water polluted by dyestuffs compounds is a global threat to health and the environment; accordingly, we prepared a green novel sorbent chemical and Physical system from an algae, chitosan and chitosan nanoparticle and impregnated with algae with chitosan nanocomposite for the sorption of Malachite green dye from water. The algae with chitosan nanocomposite by a simple method and used as a recyclable and effective adsorbent for the removal of malachite green dye from aqueous solutions. Algae, chitosan, chitosan nanoparticle and algae with chitosan nanocomposite were characterized using different physicochemical methods. The functional groups and chemical compounds found in algae, chitosan, chitosan algae, chitosan nanoparticle, and chitosan nanoparticle with algae were identified using FTIR, SEM, and TGADTA/DTG techniques. The optimal adsorption conditions, different dosages, pH and Temperature the amount of algae with chitosan nanocomposite were determined. At optimized conditions and the batch equilibrium studies more than 99% of the dye was removed. The adsorption process data matched well kinetics showed that the reaction order for dye varied with pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order. Furthermore, the maximum adsorption capacity of the algae with chitosan nanocomposite toward malachite green dye reached as high as 15.5mg/g, respectively. Finally, multiple times reusing of algae with chitosan nanocomposite and removing dye from a real wastewater has made it a promising and attractive option for further practical applications.
Evolving Lifecycles with High Resolution Site Characterization (HRSC) and 3-D...Joshua Orris
The incorporation of a 3DCSM and completion of HRSC provided a tool for enhanced, data-driven, decisions to support a change in remediation closure strategies. Currently, an approved pilot study has been obtained to shut-down the remediation systems (ISCO, P&T) and conduct a hydraulic study under non-pumping conditions. A separate micro-biological bench scale treatability study was competed that yielded positive results for an emerging innovative technology. As a result, a field pilot study has commenced with results expected in nine-twelve months. With the results of the hydraulic study, field pilot studies and an updated risk assessment leading site monitoring optimization cost lifecycle savings upwards of $15MM towards an alternatively evolved best available technology remediation closure strategy.
Improving the viability of probiotics by encapsulation methods for developmen...Open Access Research Paper
The popularity of functional foods among scientists and common people has been increasing day by day. Awareness and modernization make the consumer think better regarding food and nutrition. Now a day’s individual knows very well about the relation between food consumption and disease prevalence. Humans have a diversity of microbes in the gut that together form the gut microflora. Probiotics are the health-promoting live microbial cells improve host health through gut and brain connection and fighting against harmful bacteria. Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus are the two bacterial genera which are considered to be probiotic. These good bacteria are facing challenges of viability. There are so many factors such as sensitivity to heat, pH, acidity, osmotic effect, mechanical shear, chemical components, freezing and storage time as well which affects the viability of probiotics in the dairy food matrix as well as in the gut. Multiple efforts have been done in the past and ongoing in present for these beneficial microbial population stability until their destination in the gut. One of a useful technique known as microencapsulation makes the probiotic effective in the diversified conditions and maintain these microbe’s community to the optimum level for achieving targeted benefits. Dairy products are found to be an ideal vehicle for probiotic incorporation. It has been seen that the encapsulated microbial cells show higher viability than the free cells in different processing and storage conditions as well as against bile salts in the gut. They make the food functional when incorporated, without affecting the product sensory characteristics.
Optimizing Post Remediation Groundwater Performance with Enhanced Microbiolog...Joshua Orris
Results of geophysics and pneumatic injection pilot tests during 2003 – 2007 yielded significant positive results for injection delivery design and contaminant mass treatment, resulting in permanent shut-down of an existing groundwater Pump & Treat system.
Accessible source areas were subsequently removed (2011) by soil excavation and treated with the placement of Emulsified Vegetable Oil EVO and zero-valent iron ZVI to accelerate treatment of impacted groundwater in overburden and weathered fractured bedrock. Post pilot test and post remediation groundwater monitoring has included analyses of CVOCs, organic fatty acids, dissolved gases and QuantArray® -Chlor to quantify key microorganisms (e.g., Dehalococcoides, Dehalobacter, etc.) and functional genes (e.g., vinyl chloride reductase, methane monooxygenase, etc.) to assess potential for reductive dechlorination and aerobic cometabolism of CVOCs.
In 2022, the first commercial application of MetaArray™ was performed at the site. MetaArray™ utilizes statistical analysis, such as principal component analysis and multivariate analysis to provide evidence that reductive dechlorination is active or even that it is slowing. This creates actionable data allowing users to save money by making important site management decisions earlier.
The results of the MetaArray™ analysis’ support vector machine (SVM) identified groundwater monitoring wells with a 80% confidence that were characterized as either Limited for Reductive Decholorination or had a High Reductive Reduction Dechlorination potential. The results of MetaArray™ will be used to further optimize the site’s post remediation monitoring program for monitored natural attenuation.

3. The Ecuadorian experiment
Ecuador currently represents a paradigm shift and a unique case as an effort for a break away from the dominant
neoliberal paradigm.
This is being manifested through several indicators:
An introduction of radical principles to the Constitution which represent a
global first (2008). These include
the introduction of the Rights of Nature, and
the concept of Buen Vivir (inspired by the indigenous Sumak Kawsay)
strategic efforts for a transition to economic model, less dependent on non-renewable
resources and extractivism. These are being coupled with a vision
for a transition to a social, knowledge-based economy.

16. Contradictions
It is imperative to note that thanks to the responsible use of our non-renewable natural
resources we have strengthened the sectors of health, education, infrastructure, and thanks
to the product of the oil revenues we can enhance the development strategy of our country.
In this sense it is through our resources natural well spent that we can improve and develop
our human talent to emerge from extraction, and consolidate a knowledge society, ie "use
extractivism to exit the extractivism".

19. Conclusions
The Ecuadorian experiment has achieved positive changes towards social progress,
in education, health and public services accessible by all people with a scalar and
multilevel sustainability strategic plan through various projects, some of which
were introduced here.
But the present model of development is dependent on extractivism. Until a
transition to a non-extractivist economy has been achieved environmentally
destructive practices relating to petrol industries are going to continue.
An alternative model of post-growth economy needs to be adopted for
environmental sustainability .
A recursive governance model needs to be examined for social and political
sustainability.

Sustainability is being applied to various disciplines. We may discuss the topic of social sustainability, political sustainability, environmental sustainability, financial sustainability and energy sustainability among many. The problem is that what may be deemed sustainable in one area, may not be in another. Furthermore, it may be downright conflicting. So social sustainability in some case could be argued to be at odds with environmental sustainability
