The Kayakalp initiative aims to promote cleanliness, hygiene, and infection control at public health facilities in India. A new theme of "Eco-friendly Health Facilities" has been added to the existing Kayakalp assessment tool to evaluate facilities on energy efficiency, pollution reduction, waste management, and environmental protection. A separate award category for the best "Eco-friendly" hospital has also been introduced, with awards of 10 lakhs for the best district hospital and 5 lakhs for the best community health center or sub-district hospital. Facilities will be evaluated based on their eco-friendly scores according to the revised Kayakalp checklist criteria on eco-friendly practices, waste management,

To analyze the impact of FOCUS-PDCA management model on the disinfection quality of flexible endoscopes. Method: A study was conducted on 128 flexible endoscopes in our hospital. According to different management plans, flexible endoscopes were divided into a control group (conventional management model) and an experimental group (FOCUS-PDCA management model). The flexible endoscopes evaluated in both control group and the experimental group were 64 each. The ATP values, management quality, and bacterial colony exceeding standards were observed in two groups. Results: Before management, there was no significant difference in ATP values between the two groups, with P>0.05; after management, compared with the control group (106.25 ± 6.812), the ATP value in the experimental group was lower, with P<0.05. The scores of disinfection standards (4.39 ± 0.49), cleaning standards (4.22 ± 0.45), management systems (4.13 ± 0.34), and management assessment (4.97 ± 0.25) in the experimental group were higher than those in the control group (3.89 ± 0.31, 3.20 ± 0.41, 3.12 ± 0.13, 3.95 ± 0.21), with P<0.05. In the experimental group, the bacterial colony exceeding standard rate of gastroscopy was 3.13%, bacterial colony exceeding standard rate of colonoscopy was 0.00%, bacterial colony exceeding standard rate of bronchoscopy was 1.56%, and the total bacterial colony exceeding standard rate of total colonies was 6.25%, which were significantly lower than the control group's 12.50%, 7.81%, 12.50%, and 32.81%, respectively with P<0.05. Conclusion: The FOCUS-PDCA management model is more conducive to reducing the ATP values of flexible endoscopes, improving the disinfection qualification rate, and improving management quality. This model is worthy of further promotion.

Modern health care facilities produce large amounts of solid waste: disposable medical devices ranging from IV tubing to single-use medical devices and electronics, cleaning and disinfection products, bandages, food waste, and more. It is estimated that 25% of the waste generated by a hospital is plastic. Moreover, it is estimated that some 15-25% of the total health care waste stream contains some form of biological, chemical, radiological or other hazards.
This virtual session discussed the opportunities and challenges of plastic elimination in the global health sector through good practices in Viet Nam and the Philippines, and ultimately collaborate in raising awareness of and acting on these issues.

- 1. ECO-FRIENDLY INITIATIVE UNDER KAYAKALP PROGRAM FROM FY 2021-22 Dr. UPENDRA KUSHWAH (CPHC-Consultant) 1
- 2. AIM The Kayakalp initiative was launched in May 2015. It aims at rejuvenating the public health facilities by promoting hygiene, cleanliness and infection control practices. 2
- 3. Currently, assessment of the facilities are undertaken in six major areas Hospital / facility upkeep Sanitation & Hygiene Waste management Infection control Support services and Hygiene Promotion. Subsequently, Beyond Hospital Boundaries was added in the assessment tool.
- 4. An additional theme ‘Eco-friendly Health Facilities’ in the existing Kayakalp assessment tool has been added. These additions are as follows: 1. Energy efficiency in the hospital 2. Air and noise pollution 3. Reduce- reuse and recycling of waste 4. Save earth and environment 5. Health and well- being. 4
- 5. A separate award category for best ‘Eco-friendly’ hospital under the Kayakalp scheme has been introduced 5
- 6. Eligibility criteria for the award:- The facility must have achieved at least 70% ‘Eco-Friendly’ score under the Kayakalp during external assessment. 6
- 7. Awards Criteria:- There will be two sub categories: 1. 1st award for Best ‘eco- friendly’ District Hospital 2. 1st award for Best ‘eco- friendly’ CHC/SDH award 7
- 8.
