The document discusses whether a medical school needs an extracorporeal circulation (EC) science program or a perfusion technoschool. It describes a study that evaluated a perfusion skills course for perfusionists on handling difficult perfusion situations. The study found that perfusionists who took the course had significant improvements in self-efficacy and performance compared to the control group, as measured by questionnaires and an objective structured clinical exam. The document concludes that a short perfusion skills course can help perfusionists improve their ability to handle difficult clinical situations.
An APN is an advanced practice nurse with expert clinical knowledge and decision-making skills to provide expanded patient care. [1] In Singapore, the need for APNs was identified to manage chronic conditions, early discharges, and a growing elderly population. [2] APNs play major roles like screening, examinations, assessments, and collaborating with medical teams to manage patient groups. They work to improve outcomes like compliance, cost-effectiveness, quality of care, specialized services, and patient satisfaction. [3] The presentation concludes with a discussion of future directions for APNs in Singapore.

This document discusses the development of problem-solving skills in Japanese residency programs. It outlines reforms to medical education in Japan that emphasize competency-based training over time-based training. This includes defining core competencies, such as problem-solving skills, and assessing trainees' acquisition of competencies during training. The document also describes Japan's efforts to establish accreditation for residency programs based on competencies and outcomes, including draft guidelines for developing problem-solving skills in residency training. Feedback is requested to help further define competencies and assessment for competency-based residency programs in Japan.
Accelerated nursing programs allow students to complete nursing degrees in 1-2 years, significantly faster than traditional programs. These programs are offered both online and on-campus. They provide a flexible schedule that works well for working adults. Accelerated programs include degree completion programs for non-nursing graduates and competency-based programs that recognize prior education and experience to accelerate completion of requirements. Benefits include lower costs and motivation for students to pursue higher levels of education to become nurses.

This paper describes an educational example where a New Zealand nurse informatician worked together with a nurse lecturer from a North American university to provide an intensive health informatics course. Faculty with informatics knowledge are in short supply, and co-teaching is one method of working smarter, by both meeting immediate demand, as well as building capacity. The course and learning objectives are described, along with assessment criteria, before presenting outcomes that were demonstrated by the cohort of nursing and allied health students who completed the course.
