Basis for Curriculum
The basis for the program’s curriculum is the Creative Curriculum, a research-based early childhood curriculum
which is becoming the standard for quality in Washington state. The Creative Curriculum is based on five

principles. These principles guide our teaching practices to assess and then intentionally plan environments for
children to optimize their learning.
Positive interactions and relationships with adults provides a critical foundation for successful learning.
Building social-emotional competence has a major impact for future school success.
Constructing purposeful play supports essential learning.
Developing a physical environment positively affects the quality of learning interactions.
Building partnerships with families promotes development and learning.
